Year lasting cough

Posted by zackisgreat34 @zackisgreat34, Mar 5, 2019

OK so I'm Zachary Smith, 14
And I've been coughing up phlegm ever since I was 7, I end up having to do it at the most inconvenient times, The worst part about it is, if I don't cough any up after a long time it shows in my voice, like i have something stuck in my throat, then I cough violently…
Any advice on how to get rid of it? I can't cope with having to spit in a bucket before I go to sleep much longer…

I coughed for years. I did castor oil packs for 3 nights. It got rid of all the old stuff in me and really changed my life. Good luck.

First, have talked to your Doctor? I say this only because it's impossible for a medical person to diagnose w/o seeing you in person. What color is the phlegm, does it change, ect. If your Doctor can't solve the problem ask to be referred to a specialist.

@zackisgreat34 Zack, one thing it could be is what is called silent reflux also known as lpr: Laryngopharyngeal reflux. It is treatable, so please talk with your parents. You may need to start with your family doctor and then see specialist such as a gastroenterologist (stomach doctor). Best of luck and my prayers.

What are castor oil packs? I've never heard of them. I've been coughing for over 10 years and I'm at my wits end!

@maineguy– Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. It doesn't take a lot of words for e to see that you are pretty fed up with your cough. I hope that you have the time to read these posts.
I had to look this up so that I could answer this question. "Castor oil packs are made by soaking a piece of flannel in castor oil and placing it on the skin. The flannel is covered with a sheet of plastic, and then a hot water bottle is placed over the plastic to heat the pack. A castor oils packs typically placed on the following body regions: The right side of the abdomen" Verywell heath.Nov 20, 2019. People use this against a number of ailments, including skin conditions, blood circulation problems, and digestive upsets. It is a holistic health approach.
What doctors have you been to? Have you you've tried any treatments? What tests have you had done?
