Y-90 liver cancer treatment: What's your experience?

Posted by mudshark @mudshark, Dec 8, 2019

I recently was treated with y-90 on a tumor in my liver. I am interested in knowing of others that have had experiences good, or bad, and of long term results. I have had prior resection of the liver to remove a tumor but a new tumor surfaced in a different section. I am hoping the y-90 will prove to be a more permanent solution. Thanks

Hi @mudshark, I'd like to add my welcome. I'd also like to bring @tomewilson @afrancesca and @jerrydrennan who have talked about radioembolization (Y90) treatment.

Mudshark, (interested username) Did you experience any side effects of post-embolization syndrome, like fatigue, nausea, vomiting or fever? When will you have followup to discuss the effectiveness of the treatment?

I did not have a lot of bad side effects. Mostly a pain in my side, and fatigue. Both of which were pretty much what they told me would be possible. Today is 10 days after the procedure and I am beginning to feel pretty good.

Hello @mudshark,

I understand the feeling of a recurrence of cancer after you feel it is "behind me." I have had three surgeries for a rare form of cancer, neuroendocrine tumors/carcinoid cancer. My third surgery was 11 years after the second surgery.

Is your lymphoma in remission now?

The lymphoma is in remission. I have been declared cured of it.

I was first diagnosed With HCC early in 2018. I had lymphoma in 2004. After 10 years of follow up on the Lymphoma I thought cancer was behind me.

Hello @mudshark and welcome to Connect,

I appreciate you starting this discussion on y-90 treatment for liver cancer. From your post it appears like you have been dealing with liver cancer for a while. When was this originally diagnosed?

I found an article on Mayo's website about a man who had the y-90 treatment and was pleased with the results. If you scroll to the bottom of the article you will see that you can join the conversation by entering your information.
