Y-90 liver cancer treatment: What's your experience?

Posted by mudshark @mudshark, Dec 8, 2019

I recently was treated with y-90 on a tumor in my liver. I am interested in knowing of others that have had experiences good, or bad, and of long term results. I have had prior resection of the liver to remove a tumor but a new tumor surfaced in a different section. I am hoping the y-90 will prove to be a more permanent solution. Thanks

Hi @dmoceri31, I'm sure that @yannis and @digibson will share their experiences with Y90 treatment (radioembolization) with you. Please read through the discussion thread if you have already, starting here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/y-90-liver-cancer-treatment/

dmoceri31, would you mind also sharing your experience? When did you have Y-90 treatment? How many? How did it go?

Hi Colleen, these postings about Y90 have quit showing up in my email. They used to come in everyday. All the things I was following have quit showing up. What am I doing wrong?

This is great news, Diane. I appreciate your returning to update everyone. What is next? How frequently will you have followup appointments?

My husband had both liver lobes treated with Y90 and currently on Lonsurf.
End of month we are having an mri to see what has transpired in the liver. I scheduled an appointment with the colorectal surgeon who removed his right decal mass and then directed us to chemotherapy. He also had a celiac plexus block. Then also I scheduled an appointment with a gastroenterologist to determine why he has lost weight and muscle mass due to a fecal fat abnormal test. Finally I also scheduled a meeting with a top liver surgeon to address everything. Nurse oncologist in latest tele visit said why am I scheduling these appointments.
Because they are not following through in some of their analysis and I want answers.
The departments are focused on their treatments I want answers.
Our IR doctor who did the Y90 is the finest, most caring compassionate and thorough doctor we have encountered and his triage nurses and team are the finest. This speaks highly of the IR doctor who is head of the dept. We adore him! And we feel safe with him. Also the doctor who did the arteriography of the liver is the finest doctor.
Good luck and let me know how you fare with the Y90…
This is a good forum to exchange thoughts.

That's a hilarious vision. I sometime feel like my trainer at the gym does that to me. He's always yelling at me to eat more. :>)
