Xifaxan

Posted by drpepper @drpepper, Jan 3, 2019

A number of you have indicated success with SIBO using drug Xifaxan. Talked with my doctor yesterday and he said he didn't see how this would help. Said for IBS and travelers diarrhea. He reluctantly prescribed 600 mg per day for 10 days. Feedback appreciated. Thanks

Regarding Canadian pharmacies: I just placed my first order for another drug. It’s easy to do. Look up Certified Canadian Pharmacies. I just picked one that had good options for me.

My heart goes out to all who suffer from C-diff!
After suffering 5 episodes in a year and a half (having been treated with Vancomycin pulse & taper method each time by my GP, a Gastro Dr. treated me with 2 weeks Vancomycin 2 times/day, followed immediately by 4 weeks of Xifaxin (also known as
Rifaxamin). I now take Garden of Life Probiotic for Women and have (myself) added 1 Align probiotic every 3rd day - to try & build up the good bacteria in my gut. Also, no raw fruits or raw veggies (only cooked veggies)/no cruciferous (gaseous) veggies/ plain chicken or salmon/oatmeal in a.m. with tablespoon of Psyllium (fiber) sprinkled on it and 2 tablespoons of apple sauce on it/ LOTS of liquids (filtered water/plain tea/ soup or broth, throughout the day/NO sweets or added sugar/NO spicy or fried foods.
So far, so good since end of November (now 2 1/2 months). Wish me luck.
Hope this might work for someone else, too.
N.B. I am not a medical professional. Just researched online and tried different bland options.

I know you can order from the Canadian pharmacy’s for very low price but it could take months .
Also there is a coupon you can get from your GI that might be helpful and I believe the company has some kind of coupon.

Canadian prescription drugstore
1-888-572-0832
Extremely low cost easy to work with friendly
Yet could be 3-4 months to receive
Best of luck please do ask your GI for free samples

Just my opinion, but you have to be super careful ordering from Canada. I did all of my research into Canadian online phamacies and picked one that I certain was legit. I was ordering brand Lexapro for a much cheaper price. Unfortunately it was NOT the real thing and I started going through terrible withdrawals. With that said, if anyone finds a Canadian pharmacy that sells the real Xifaxan please let me know. I take it twice daily and the cost is killing us. I am now fighting with a new Medicare drug company about covering it. When I checked the Canadian pharmacies a few years ago for Xifaxan the cost was still very high. So aggravating!

I don't know yet, but I may have come upon a miracle that has helped my HE! I certainly pray that it has!!
Last night I tried 600mg CBD oil broad spectrum 1/2 dropperful and I think it helped me within 2 hours.
If anyone has heard anything on it, please let me know.
There are 30 servings per bottle and I think I paid $80., it was that one or the other one and one or the other was cheaper, a while back, a few months ago anyway. I was afraid to try it. Can you believe it?!

As my insurance does not cover Xifaxan, and it costs over $2000, does anyone have any info on Canadian pharmacies that they have used and were happy with?
Thank you in advance for your help.

@azj, I moved your question to this existing discussion where others like @johnbluffside @4846 @astaingegerdm and others offer options of finding cheaper prices for Xifaxan (rifaximin)‎

I took Xifaxan a few times. It perhaps worked for a few weeks. It appears to be that doctors are using it as a diagnostic instead of a CT scan or MRI. I also think that IBS is a catch all phrase for, what could be, many other issues that are indeed difficult to discover. I found my issues was not SIBO but a mobile cecum and adhesions. This may not be true for anyone else but perhaps further examination should be done esp if one bout of Xifaxan doesn’t work.

Does anyone know if Rifaxaman can be taken as a preventitive in order to attend a special function (wedding/graduation), OR will the antibiotic cause diarrhea?
This is in relation to having recurring C-diff. Thank you.

I've been diagnosed with IBS-D. I had a SIBO test done by a GI doctor in the valley. I was told the test was positive for SIBO. I was treated with Xifaxin 550 mg three times a day for two weeks. I was reluctant to take it as I felt my stools were getting more formed and cramping was much lesss. I took the Xifaxin and the diarrhea got much worse. I then went to a GI doctor at Mayo who said I did not have SIBO but that many doctors will treat IBS-D with Xifaxin even with a negative SIBO test. I think the xifaxin worsened a gut bacteria imbalance. I feel I need a probiotic. Has anyone had worsening symptoms from Xifaxin? Can anybody suggest a specific probiotic that was helpful? The symptom of urgency is also a problem with had been under control and returned after the Xifaxin. I"m told that anti-depressants can eliminate the urgency. I also recently read about cinnamon extract water helping diarrhea. I'm so confused. I want to get these symptoms under control. Please share your thoughts. Thank you.
