Worrying about surgery, partial mastectomies on both sides and

Reduction and lift.

I’ve read up all I can, and I feel like what I’ve heard ranges from, hardly any pain at all and pretty easy recovery, to, hey I couldn’t use my arms at all and had to have someone help me wipe after the toilet, and the pain was unbearable for weeks.

One thing that all seem to agree on is, I will need to sleep in my recliner the first four weeks, and it’s a good idea to have someone home to help me that first week after surgery (I will have that,)

I’m sorry for troubling all of you, but I was wondering what your experiences have been, and if you could help me get a better sense of how recovery will go.

Thank you all so much. I am grateful for this community.

Positive mental attitude, yay! 😍🌹

Thank you so much for your kind and helpful post, I appreciate it very much!

I have a first post op ten days after surgery, then another fourteen days after surgery (two different surgeons, so two different appointments) so I am guessing my drains will be removed ten days after the surgery.

I wonder, if the drains go dry, no more fluid coming out, if there is extra danger of infection? Maybe drains never run dry, maybe they always have at least clear fluid in them.

I will post again after my surgery (less than a week now!) to let everyone know how I did.

Thank you again so much!

My lumpectomy with 13 lymph nodes removed required a drain under my arm. I kept track of the drainage amount daily and was told the drain would be removed at the 10 day post op visit or earlier if the amount dropped to a certain level (don't remember that). It didn't get there until 2 days before appointment so I just waited it out. I hated that drain. The bag was just taped on, so I was constantly retaping it. One day the tape failed while I was away from home, but luckily I was wearing a jacket with a turtleneck shirt which absorbed the spill. No measuring for me that night.
