Will I ever recover from my operation for spinal stenosis?

Posted by elizadolittle @elizadolittle, Mar 20, 2024

I had my operation a year ago, March 23rd. i appear to be getting better. I do go days without a painkiller.
Yesterday was not a good day. I couldn't sit at the computer and do my work. I finally remembered to use an ice pack on my back. It helped a bit. I couldn't sit still so I went out and washed down my patio furniture. By midnight I was pain free!
I find it so frustrating not knowing what works best. Do nothing and sit around or get up and get moving. Has anyone heard of the book,"Don't Get out of Bed?" I tuned into a PBS show where it was talked about. It's all about exercises for senior. Has anyone tried it?

Never heard of the book, but it sounds like something that we all need to look into

I hear you! You sound like me. The surgeon just said, I have two choices. a. stay on the painkillers (Tramadol & Gabapentin for the rest of my life or b. the operation with no guarantees.

I am glad I took the operation. There is hope for improvement with drugs--No.

I went back to my chiropractor about 6 months after the operation. The first treatment was fantastic! I made the mistake of going back again a week later. It took me ages to get over it.

I went back a few weeks ago and he only worked on my neck and did stretching and slight twisting of my right leg. Fantastic again.

Yesterday was a great day! I spent at least 6 hours on the computer filling out a form that I could not save. I am still feeling great today!

The frustration is not knowing what works best.

I don't know if I'm fused or not. My chiropractor has several spinal stenosis patients.

The one thing that he does that is so helpful, is stretch or pull my right leg. That seems to relieve tension in that hip and leg area. He's very careful regarding my back. It was well over a year after the operation that I started going back to him.

I'm trying lazar treatment on my back and side along with accupuncture. It seems to be working. I had my second treatment yesterday. When I went in to see my accupuncturist, I was miserable. I walked out without feeling any pain. I slept the afternoon away. I was careful not to screw things up.

I took my little Miah, the Bichon/Poodle mix, for alonger walk than ususal this afternoon. Part way back, I felt some resistence in my right leg. It is 10 p.m. as I write. No pain at all. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The first Lazar treatment did just enough for me to want to try another treatment. I'm glad I did.

I have a pacemaker. I checked on the internet to see if I could use lazar. It said to keep it away from the wires. There must be 18 inches between my pacemaker and the treatment. I told my doctor that I was trying lazar and he didn't discourage me.

When you’re talking about lazor treatments are you referring to nerve ablation treatment where they burn off your nerves and if not please describe what you mean by lazor treatments please. I’m curious.

I haven't the vaguesed(?) idea of what happens. I don't feel anything. I'll check with my accupuncturist on Friday. Personally, I don't care what it does, as long as I am pain free. This week has been a pretty good week compared to previous weeks. I haven't been completely pain-free but pretty close to it.
