Will I be able to eat again after radiation to my neck and head?

@victru when I do try which is almost never I do taste a little bit . Still very unnatural.

@krisohlson I can not eat . Everything tastes awful and the nausea doesn’t help .

It has been 11 years this Aug since my - surgery, chemo Cisplatin and 38 radiation treatments. My vagus nerve was in my tumor and had to be cut. The cranial nerves that produced eating swallowing digesting can be damaged causing motility problems. I was on feeding tube 1 whole year because I couldn’t stop vomiting. However I think I was saved by my swallow therapist who made me work my tongue and swallowing muscles like I was training for the Olympics.
Like others here, each of us has had extremely challenging times but you have to find the providers who will help you and work with you to make the greatest recovery possible. I can remember wishing I could eat a turkey sandwich and one day after working on my swallow skills I did it. There are Chinese motility teas recommended by MSKCC that I found helpful. Let me know if you’d like a recommendation.

I couldn’t get through a day without multiple vomiting and thank goodness I got the feeding tube after not having it for months after treatment. My problem was my vagus nerve was damaged (severed) causing paralysis to one vocal chord and severe motility (digestive) issues and I suspect that many of us here have CNX dysfunction.
It’s dreadful that there is so little attention paid to the later effects of radiation. I think most people suffer with loss of thyroid so you should consider having a good endocrinologist look into that.

Thank you . I am supposed to have an endoscopy next week . However , the gastroenterology office never returns any call I might have about the procedure .
They say they will call back but never , never do .
I just don’t get it .
