Why am I smelling cleaners?
I haven't used cleaners that have ammonia or bleach in them in weeks, or longer. But some mornings I wake up to an overpowering smell of it, and can't shake it. Its nauseating. I don't clock it up to Covid because this has been happening intermittently since 2017. I've asked PCP, even ENT and neuro at Mayo. No answer. Anyone else dealing w this?

I’ve encountered phantom smells before. Mine were intermittent and have subsided. My neurologist nor ENT knew why. My brain MRI was normal, The last one occurred right after covid and was accompanied with a taste disorder and lack of smell. I did have recurring strong smell of sweet almost like fabric softener. It lasted about 8 months and went away.
I know how distressing phantom smells can be. I received talk therapy during that time for multiple things I had going on and found it quite helpful.
I too have experienced a chlorine smell . I use nasal rinse and a steroid rinse daily . My sense of smell comes and goes but I know this is from inside my nasal /sinus because no one else smells it . Sorry I have no answer for you .
