Yes. They build a 'map' of your floor and obstacles the first couple of times they go to work on your floors and on your instruction. In fact, in the app on your phone, you can tell it which 'maps' to work on. If you only want the kitchen and hallway done, tell it to use Map B.
Some models do very well with dog hairs, and they all know how to move around chair legs, cassocks, side-tables, etc. What they will have trouble with, but only in figuring out how to deal with the new obstacle, until they include it in the map, is anything large that you leave in the map that wasn't there the previous mapping...like a laundry basket, or a moved garbage can.
I moved to be near an adult child and his family. That didn't work out; they had their own activities and lives. One year later I moved back to where I had lived prior to the first move.
I left a home with a gorgeous view (and a very steep driveway). My new home on returning to where I had first lived is on a flat lot with a flat driveway, but no view. Almost all view homes I've seen have a steep driveway because to have the view the house has to be on a hillside.
I have a roomba and it does go between floor, tile and carpet. I get the self-emptying one. Not cheap, but mine has been great for five years now with occasional changing out a brush here and there. It’s easy to find the meaning of a “beep” and to reset it.
Hi I just want to say how much I admire people who do all of their own housework. All my adult life I gave worked full time outside the house and still liked painting wall papering sponge painting (remember that stupid idea from the 80's?) etc if the homes we lived in. And yes to daily housekeeping cooking etc too. I was young and energetic and my surrounding meant a lot to me as they do today. But with advancing age and mobility issues I am prepared to call it what it is. DRudgery! I cannot for the life of me find anything therapeutic or character building while cleaning. I still love the feeling of sitting back and seeing my house clean...I just can't do what us required to keep it looking that way. So the one comment about hiring a cleaning service seemed negative but I am wondering if anyone has had good luck with one. And if so was it a national cleaning service or someone local! Thanks.

Local - not great but better than nothing! Also expensive. But I'll keep looking. There has to be someone out there who knows how to clean (or is that another lost art?).
I have a housekeeper come once a month to clean also.
I make sure everything is "put away", so she concentrates on vacuum cleaning and dusting for the most part. She scrubs the kitchen floor and even dusts the top of the window frames. When I worked, I had her every two weeks, but monthly seems to work ok now that I am retired.
She even brings her own vacuum cleaner and dust rags, and bucket. Am I lucky or am I lucky?
