Whether to wait for cataract surgery
I have moderate cataract in Right eye, mild in left eye. Presently I can see 20/25 with my left eye with correction glasses - -6.25 spherical. My right eye is at -10.25 since onset of cataract (myopic shift) but I read 20/25 near with my right eye by wearing -8.00 glasses. I thus have functional distance and near vision with each eye.
Can I wait for cataract surgery safely for a couple of years? I don’t drive. Complications of surgery seem to intimidate me.

I was advised to wait on cataract surgery until glasses could not improve vision.
@tillymack, I was also told that I needed this surgery, I noticed a change in my vision and my eye glasses were not working properly. I had a lot of tests done and they were almost ready to setting a date for surgery but I just wanted to wait for now, I don’t mind waiting because I’m terrified of something going wrong, I was given a lot of info on possible complications. I came very close to losing my vision and I don’t think I’m ready yet.
I would wait until the very last minute. I have heard too many not so good stories. 20/25 is really good vision. Mine is 20/50 both eyes.
@mikaylar You might go to an optomotrist not affiliated with the cataract surgeon to see if a new updated pair of eyeglasses might improve your vision.
I see a neuro eye doc but I cannot get new lenses yet until the fluid in my eye goes down from the macular degeneration. I do not have cataracts. I have high eye pressure from the eye injections.
Hello,
I couldn't believe how much brighter it was w/o cataracts!!! It was quite different after surgery; so much so that the lights were almost too bright. I had forgotten what things were supposed to look like, especially in a grocery store. I needed sunglasses for a couple of weeks when I was in bright environments. I can see so much better. I can't believe how dim my vision had become, without me even realizing it.
Be blessed.
Susan
