Where to start with addressing a bad hospital experience
When I was in the ICU a couple of years ago I had a bad experience one night that has been haunting me recently as the covid crisis has been dredging up memories for me.
A nurse and ma thought I couldn’t hear them and talked about what a waste I was because I was younger and brain damaged. I had ICU psychosis, but not any severe brain damage. They were angry that I had pulled out an IV so they called in the parking lot police and had me tied up. They all stood around and laughed about how handy it is to know how to tie knots. This experience haunts me. It amazes me that any nurse could be so cruel.
I would like to report this incident to the hospital, but I don’t know where to start. Human Resources? Any thoughts?
Thank you,
Michelle

Michelle, that is a horrible memory to carry around with you. To make a patient complaint, most hospitals have a specific department for this. They may have different names like Patient Experience, Patient Relations, Consumer Relations, or something similar. If you can't find anything online, I suggest calling the main contact number of the hospital to inquire.
Is it possible that you were experiencing delirium? Have you ever spoken to your mother about this?
Thanks for the response. I will do some looking online at the hospital departments to start.
I have spoken to my mom about it many times. It happened the night they moved me to a step down unit. I was experiencing more lucid moments by then.
