When do you do your airway clearance treatments?
I do two airway clearance treatments a day. My pulmonologist told me to do the first one when I first got up. I'm finding that this often delays or inhibits any appetite I might have in the morning, which affects my whole day. When do you do your treatments, morning when you first get up, after breakfast, etc?

If you do a google search there are fantastic videos on autogenic drainage, mostly from Australia, where it is described in detail so you can understand the logic of it. The app is most valuable, I think, after you have a basic understanding of what it’s about.
I do airway clearance usually before I eat at mid day (well after breakfast ) and again before supper.
I might huff cough some mucus in the morning but can’t clear enough before noon to do 15-25 minutes of A/C before breakfast.
Thank you. I have noticed that I don't have as much mucous in the mornings when I first get up as. I appreciate your experience!
Thank you for your thorough comments! I will experiment as you suggested.
Very helpful! I see from all the comments, waiting at least 2 hours after a meal is advisable.
Hi Barbara,
Thank you for your input. I add the Smartvest therapy (15 minute therapy) after my nebulizer treatment and finish off with a couple of puffs of Simbecort. It is very helpful for me to hear from actual persons who are experiencing a certain condition, and how they are navigating their treatment, rather than comb through hundreds of articles on the Internet. I am very grateful for Mayo Clinic Connect!

Hi paxmundi-
I just found this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kC-H8fFzZes
What do you think about it? I was impressed with her full discussion.
Sounded logical about how often one should or should not be doing the coughing throughout the day. I may have been doing it too much, don't know for sure because I feel fine but do feel I have more mucus. So I might have overdone the clearing in between the nebulizing sessions and the clearing afterwards.
Hope you are doing well and all good with the pulmonologist etc.

Thank you Barbara for this video. It got me wondering about my nebulizer sessions in the morning. I find I don’t have much mucous in the morning now and the 7% sodium chloride makes me cough violently often to the point of vomiting. When I don’t get much up that first treatment, later I seem to be experiencing more phlegm during the day. I’ve started delaying my first treatment until after breakfast and getting into my day. But even that isn’t consistent with ease of phlegm removal initially. I use the aeobeka and a SmartVest additionally. Now Im wondering what is best for me.

Diane Are you doing sodium choride or hypertonic saline solution? Not good, 'to the point of vomiting." I don't know how long you have been doing all but it takes time, as many have said, to find your way to what is best for you. I also think in the beginning it takes time to loosen the mucus...with needing to get enough moisture in the lungs. No different than taking certain medications and knowing it will take time to see results. What do you think???
