What to Eat When I Don't Feel Like Eating?

Posted by geekygirl9 @geekygirl9, Sep 29, 2023

Hi, I'm having motility issues and am trying to figure out the best way to cope. Most days aren't terrible, but some days I get pretty backed up and don't particularly feel like eating. At one time I could have afforded to simply roll with it and eat less, but nowadays my weight/energy level/adrenal glands are demanding a normal amount of nutrition regardless. What do I do? I'm pretty chicken to try anything new (and my allergy profile's making things next to impossible, too), but I do wish I at least had a backup (no pun intended) plan for giving my body what it needs without continuing to add to the buildup as if nothing were wrong. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Beef bone broth is good too! Since I also have SIBO, I read the package to make sure no garlic/onions. The Imagine brand is “clean”, if you can get it there. Probably online if not, in boxes not jars or cans.
Amazing what I have found to put in soup, having SIBO, yellow or red peppers, fresh green beans, corn, left over mashed potatoes, (margarine only) etc…
Another great quick meal instant grits with shredded cheddar cheese on top! Add a fried egg for more protein. Easy on tummy.
I know a lot of people don’t use kosher salt, but it makes food taste sooo much better than regular salt, and you can use less…

Ps
Starting with the “A’s”, asparagus, avocado, artichokes, apples, almonds (can have almonds only in tiny quantities) etc etc…are all some of my favorite foods…but a no-no for SIBO, unless you are done and starting with the re-introduction of foods…

Have you considered trying Ensure or a similar product that can provide you an entire meal in one serving? I’ve taken care of patients who’ve survived on Ensure.

I like the smoothie idea. My mom's heard that you can make some good ones with avocados, too. Looking forward to trying this.

I drink smoothies twice a day. I use coconut water as the base then I add fruit such as blueberries, strawberries, orange a handful of organic spinach or kale, avocado, frozen banana, veggie protein powder and a bit of raw ginger. I use my vitamix to blend it smooth. I’m sure this has kept me alive during my worst times. Good luck to you.

Just diagnosed with EPI. Meds costs are in the thousands. Any alternative ideas to help digestive enzyme issues?

Check with your doctor on this -- Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar (capsules or liquid). I have slow digestion due to a redundant colon and perhaps undiagnosed weak digestive enzymes (I was a junk food queen for many years).

The vinegar speeds things along. Check out the research on it. It definitely helps me.

Also, for me, meat is slow to digest and problematic. Animal fats too (and too much of any non-animal fat can be problematic). I focus on fish, egg whites, and pea protein isolate for good protein sources, as well as non-fat milk (for me, lactose-free).

Though I do not have your condition, I hope this information helps.
