What to do when airways tight and dry

Posted by @ling @wangling, 1 day ago

Does anyone have a day when everything tightens up and dry? When that happens, mucus is hard to get out of, and causes shortness of breath easily. How do you deal with it and what would be the best way to get over it? Your experience is appreciated.
Thanks!

Yes, I have experienced tightness and dryness in the past. Like @crepass says drinking more fluids helpful. Sipping warm tea. Try an extra saline ampule to see if that gets things moving. Are you using the aerobika after nebbing? Postural drainage? Are you on Brinsupri? Brinsupri has helped a lot with that inflamed feeling I used to experience from time to time when my chest felt like cement. Hope this helps.

Thank you, scoop and crepass . I have been taking Brisupri for about 4
months now. I am happy for you that Brisupri has helped you with the
inflamed airways. I hope it does that to me too. Since taking it I have not
had any flare up even when I am fighting with a cold. I use a vest, and
aerobika alternatively. I also do autogenic drainage.
Thanks again.

@wangling I also noticed that my symptoms changed over time. I do remember a "dryish" phase. Hang in there. They say it takes up to 6 months for full effectiveness.

Thanks scoop for sharing your experience, it is good to know. I have hope
this drug might help us to stay away or decrease the flare up.
BTW. I read your earlier note, you mentioned that you have been dealing
with BE for 2 decades now, you are doing a great job to stay MAC free for
those years. Do you still use symbicort?
Take care!

@wangling Yes, for asthma

Also give mullein tea a try. It is helpful for me to loosen mucus. Admittedly it doesn't have the greatest flavor. Someone suggested mixing it with peppermint tea. It is a herbal tea and caffeine free.

@wangling Ling...I want to assume you drink enough water???? What I do for myself is also heat up a cup of plain water, I first have boiled it for 10 minutes, purified water, and that does help. I'm sure you know you don't want it terribly hot...not good for us that way. We need to do as much as we can to eventually get the mucus wet, consistently wet and us hydrated, enough to loosen it.

@blm1007blm1007 , Thank you so much Barbara!
You are awesome, so actively engaged and trying to help others. Yes, I drink water as much as I can. The mucus is not thick, it is glue like to seal my airways, that is how I feel.
Take care!
