What should I expect at first appointment meeting with neurologist?

Posted by Wonderwoman801 @branica1, Jan 20 6:30pm

Diagnosed with MS from my neurologist, what should I expect at my first appointment with neurologist is Arizona. Should I plan to be there all week? What kind of testing will be done to confirm this diagnosis?

The kind of testing Mayo will do depends on what has already been done and how recent? They may repeat some testing if necessary.

Have you shared all testing and imaging with Mayo?

I had a couple MRIs last March and April and those have been shared with the Mayo clinic.

@Wonderwoman801. Depending on the reason for your appointment with neurology I think you can expect to stay at Mayo Clinic for at least a few days. With the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) I'd expect tests and imaging to be ordered. I suggest that you make your hotel reservations for 3-5 days. Mayo Clinic is set up so that the schedulers will make appointments, as available, while you are already there. You can always check out of the hotel earlier. In my experience and many others here at Mayo Clinic Connect other appointments and tests could be added after you see the neurologist. You may as well be prepared with hotel reservations so that it's one less thing to be concerned about.

Have you been seen at Mayo Clinic in the past? If so, do you use the Patient Portal? If not, you can create your Patient Portal account at the link below. The portal is an easy way to keep track of your appointments, clinical notes, test results, and billing.

@naturegirl5, thank you for the info. I'm getting my hotel booked today so I'll be sure to do it for the whole week.
This is my first time going to the Mayo clinic and I will be going to the one in Scottsdale Arizona. I did get the patient portal setup last week.
