What kind of incontinence product after RARP ?

Posted by surftohealth88 @surftohealth88, Jul 7 6:54pm

I know that incontinence has different levels but in general - with what kind of product one should start ?
There is an "underwear" type of products and than there are pads / guards. Do I buy both of them for my husband ?
Also, in your experience, how many a day one needs for a full incontinence (I have to expect the worst and be surprised with the better outcome, that is how my brain works *sigh and beside, I do not think that my guardian angel is "all there" since 1992 XP ) ?
And thirdly - is the sizing on those boxes correct or one should go a size up for a comfort ?

Thank you all in advance < 3

I tried several non -surgical ways to deal with incontinence. The first and worst was briefs and pads. It’s just disgusting walking around with a heavily urine laden pad.

External catheters were just as creepy. Putting them on and off and changing collection bags every morning and night, can’t wear shorts, or be active, and walking around with a bag full of piss - yuk.

Incontinence clamps (sold on Amazon, I found Wiesner the most comfortable) allow me to wear anything, do anything, anytime. I don’t tighten tne clamp to the max so use one Tena Sensitive overnight high absorbency pad a day. Tena lads are stealth under cloths. Clamp location is changed during the day upon voiding, and comes off at night. Hands down the best non-surgical solution. Don’t hesitate to nave him try several brands for best fit.

Depends are awful! Try to avoid. Tena pads are good, a little bulk up front, easy to change.
I'll "leak" a little when I sneeze or pick up the Doxie dog. I wear something with a pouch and use a small
panty liner. Also, a piddle pad under the bottom sheet
at night....

I used pads during the day and underwear with a pad under me to sleep. I had a couple of blowouts and glad I used the bed pad. I used them until my pelvic floor and muscle memory returned and quit using anything after 3 months or so until radiation two years later. Pro tip: Black shorts and pants don't show minor leaks. Sport boxers dry quickly. Good luck and Kegel on!

Thank you all for finding the time to write and helping me with the preparations < 3.

I really appreciate that you went into details since those seemingly small and trivial facts are actually the ones that help me get the gist 😉 . When things are out of control having at least small control over logistics means a lot.

Sending hugs to all and wishing you nice and relaxing day < 3 ! : ))

I am still totally incontinent 10 months after surgery. I alternate between Depend and Prevail briefs just so I don’t develop “tread marks” on my legs. They’re very similar products and generally don’t leak. I use Tena pads also. Tena briefs are quite good, but they have fewer sizes and none worked for me. Night time requires reinforcements. I have a NorthShore washable pad on the bed. And I use NorthShore tab style briefs to get through the night. That’s what’s working in my situation. Good luck!

My wife bought me these for the car ride home after the catheter came out:
https://www.kmart.co.nz/product/puppy-training-pad-100-pack-42779612/
That girl does have a sense of humour... but they work & they're cheap.
I have one on our bed right now. But for some reason, I don't leak lying down at all.

Leaking out of the pads? Absolutely.
In fact, I take 3 changes of underpants/trousers to work.
And twice I've had to go home within 2 hours, cause I've leaked through.
A bit of an anatomy lesson: girls (presumably) pee straight ahead.
Guys don't - depending which way it's "pointing".
If it's pointing to the side, it can & will pee to the side of the underpants & pee onto the trousers.
Welcome to my world.
To combat that, I wear 2 pads first thing in the morning - a smaller pad put inside a pad large enough for Andre the Giant.
Overkill, but it works.
That's just for the first hour of the working day. For the rest of the day, it's just one 4-drop pad, changed every couple of hours.

Size-wise, I did buy a size one-up, but found it wasn't necessary.
Does Depends in the US/Canada offer free samples?
Depends New Zealand does.

Good for trying them out.

Prior to having an AUS procedure, i used to purchase the puppy pads and cut them into 4 squares. Thst, together with my depends helped to manage my leakage

Wow. LOL For my first free sample pack, i got 3 - so my wife got free pads as well.
To make things even worse for you... I got sick of paying for pads, so asked the continence nurse where I could get them cheaper.
For the last few months, I've had them delivered o my door in huge boxes - free.
Here's my next shipment. It's just a regular order, every month. No cost.
I literally have 200 pads in my spare room.
I'm calling to cancel, cause I'm having my AUS activated soon.

Well well, ha ha ha, rubbing it in, aren't we XP lol - I guess you have a spare room for us ahahaha, tempting us to move and all ; ) lol. Joking to the side - I am so happy to hear that you are having such great and affordable care - good for you !!! : ))) I was always dreaming of living in Australia or NZ but stars were not cooperating. Maybe in my next life ;).

Tried "Totaldry" right now - size L is "sold out" even for sampling and pad/shield type that I need gone too. Also, I can not have 2 samples of the same kind, so I would end up with only one sample of one thing. I mean, it is just ridiculous to buy huge packets of anything and than trow it away - what a waste of money and totally environmentally irresponsible ! I would be happy to pay for full sample variety package - like 2 of each in line, size L. One would think that something like that is a marketing no brainier for those companies ???? I do not know ... just ridiculous.

I ordered today some products on Amazon, if they do not work, they will be donated, what else is person to do.
