I'm new to this post, but wanted to give my experience with Fosamax. I am 61 years old, I am a runner, and I have been weight training for 25 years. I was shocked when I heard I has osteoporosis. I was on Fosamax for 4 months, and started experiencing inconsistent heavy chest, some pains in legs, and an achy pain in my gums and jaw. My doctor said it was probably a coincidence with my mouth and never addressed the other issues I was having. I was told to make an appointment with her. The appointment schedule was 3 months out. I decided to take myself off of the fosamax until I could talk to someone regarding my side effects. In the mean time I bought a vibration plate, and continued with my vitamins, including algaecal which I have been taking since 1/1/25. Yesterday I went to a Naturopathic doctor to get a second opinion. There is a lot more to what I learned, but she changed my vitamins, and explained the calcium game (too much/too little) She also prescribed 2 other supplements, in which I am going to try. I am considering HRT; however, I have high blood pressure and it needs to be properly regulated before we would go that route. I have been on 3 types of BP med since being diagnosed 15 years ago, and it still fluctuates high and low. The jury is out on what my next move is. I have not changed my primary care doctor to this woman yet. I'll take any advice from anyone who has experience with osteoporosis, as I am new to this, and there is so much conflicting information out there. I want to do the best job I can to preserve what I have without compromising the rest of my health.
@rajmayo22 you may want to do more research on the best type of calcium supplement to take. The calcium in Caltrade if i am not wrong, is calcium carbonate which is cheaper but has poor absorption/bioavailability. Essentially, it's a bit like eating chalk! Personally, after some research, i settled on a mix of calcium hydroxyapatite and calcium citrate
Since 2022, I have seen two Endo docs in the same practice group and neither suggested the supplement you mentioned. What is the brand name that contains Ca hydroxyapatite and Ca citrate. Thanks

I took Fosamax for a long time twenty plus years ago. I ended up with Multiple Myeloma Cancer (currently have 15 broken bones) and have ugly osteoporosis which was shocking to me. 12 of my fractured vertebrae are in my spine. I have had a number of different bone building shots. Xgeva, then Prolia and just now Evenity. All three of those require abstaining from any dental work 3 months before and 3 months after dental work being done to avoid Necrotic Jaw Disease.

There are many brands so i can't really recommend any in particular. I personally take "Now" Ca Hydroxyapatite and “LAC" Ca Citrate but i am sure there are many better (and worse) options
I just started Fosamax and am experiencing heavy legs and aches like I’ve done a long leg workout??? Should I continue or is this a more serious warning ? I’ve been fighting taking bone building meds for a long time. My DEXA was osteopenia, but my wrist was significantly osteoporotic? Looking for some help. I do weight lifting and average 3-5 mile walks four to five times a week.
