Hello @july61955 Welcome to Connect. You’re asking some interesting questions today. I guess the best way is to tackle them one at a time.

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a condition that occurs when your immune system abnormally overreacts. When this happens, it causes your immune system to attack your body instead of a foreign invader like a virus. From my understanding there are two types of HLH.
The first is referred to as Primary where it is an inherited condition.
There is also Secondary HLH which can be triggered by a reaction to an infection, cancer, or an autoimmune disease.

To further explain HLH, these two articles give a good overview:

~From Cleveland Clinic

The next question on your list is regarding thrombycytopenia.
This is a term used for having a low platelet count. Platelets are a component of blood which is responsible for blood being able to clot.

From Mayo Clinic:

And the last question on your list: What is hepatomegaly with splenomegaly not elsewhere specified?
Hepatomegaly refers to a swollen liver. Splenomegaly is referring to a swollen spleen. If both organs are enlarged, the two words may often be combined as Hepatosplenomegaly.

The last phrase regarding “Not elsewhere specified” refers to a coding term used in medical documents. The doctor will describe a condition or service in detail, but sometimes the coding system lacks a more specific code option. So this designation allows for accurate billing and record-keeping when specific codes are not available.

Now I have a couple of quesitons for you! This is a lot of information to take in. So I’m wondering if you or a loved one were recently undergoing testing for an illness and these test results appeared on your patient portal? Have you been able to have a consultation with your doctor?
