I am similar to Candy's assessment. I worked as a teacher, on my feet all day for 30 years. I have walked/exercised every day for years. I too have stomach/gut issues. I had to retire from teaching because my back suddenly began to hurt every day. I am told I have arthritis as well as disc slippage/degeneration in my spine. My Dexa scans just keep getting slowly worse over the years. I do believe osteoporosis occurs, in large part, to loss of natural hormones like estrogen. My mother had 7 children so she had it coursing through her body for many years of her life. It's what kept her young looking and she passed at age 96. But my generation of women were advised NOT to take hormone replacement therapy. What a mistake! We women are paying the consequences of this decision on the part of the medical community. I, like many others here, are stressed about taking medicine for the rest of our lives. It seems unnatural. Yet we don't want to suffer from a bad fracture. So, it comes down to which medicine is best for each person. And I don't think all the Vit. D and raw calicum that I take really helps, as my Dexa numbers keep slipping further. I am reading these posts carefully and thank every single brave woman here that is going through this difficult decision.

You are so right!!! My mom had four children at an early age and then went on hormones her entire life and was so youthful looking. I needed hormones at the time when that study came out and said they were dangerous. I am 64 and still might consider taking some lower dose hormones along with evenity or another med. I had a very well known functional med doc from John Hopkins suggest I try that. He also put me in touch with a functional nutritionist to help with my stomach issues. She has been amazing. Helped me so much.
I also started taking Algaecal calcium not the stronium. In just three weeks on this type of calcium my nails are growing and strong. Before taking them my nails would just break and peel and were very flexible and thin.
Thank you everyone for all your support and sharing.

I wish you the best of luck candy209. My spine was -4.5 when I started my journey 3 years ago. I am now a -3.6 and jumping for joy to be there!

Each individual is different. Hormone therapy may work very well for those that can have it. But some, like me, are positive for prothrombin factor 2 which means artificial hormones increases my risk of stroke. I would advise anyone contemplating using artificial hormones to discuss it with their dr.

What medication are you taking?

One out of 8 women get breast cancer and I read that 70% of those cancers are fed by estrogen. I am 8 years out from a breast cancer diagnosis and did 5 years of a med that eliminates all estrogen (adrenals still produce estrogen after menopause). I did not have a genetic link to breast cancer. It is hard to predict who is safe taking hormones, honestly, in my view, but I can understand why people take them.

I have been wondering if the Tymlos has helped you Wendy .,My Dr says it’s a lot of paperwork and just insists on reclast .

I started with Reclast. It took me 2 years to go from a -4.5 to =4.1. I started Prolia a year ago and it has made all the difference for me. I had a bone scan 3 weeks ago and went from a -4.1 to 3.6 in one year. Those readings are all from my spine. My left hip increased from-2.4 to - 2.2. Right showed no improvement. My back feels stronger. I just had my 3rd Prolia shot a week ago. It was in my left arm. I had a stiff muscle in my neck for about 4 days following the shot. I don't know if that was a reaction but I feel absolutely great now. I will reply with my daily regimen which also attributes to my good results

I agree with you windy shores. ..your body is designed by nature to go thru menopause..why would you take estrogen that would promote breast cancer..that is one reason I would not take hormones...I agree that it is horrible going thru hot flashes etc...
