I just found this support group. I have had chronic pain for 25 years. It started when I tripped over my dog and had a hard fall.i also quit smoking and gained 50lbs along with extra weight after 3 babies. Then I started having odd symptoms and after 2 years of being tested and seeing many drs I got diagnosec with Crest syndrome or limited scleraderma. I finally lost 82 lbs, took 5 years but did it with help of wegovy. With that weight lost, my back pain disappeared but my joint pain
And feet already were damaged due to the weight and continue to be a big problem. Its not easy being a pain patient, and a nurse who worked in pain management for 21 years. I am still working but as a nurse on the computer all day which causes neck and back pain . I have tried so many things and am on tramadol for over 20 years and thank the Lord, Co tinuesto work. Physical therapy has saved my life . I am on a teletherapy and it works well for me. Its called Hinge therapy and truly has changed my life. I use it everyday and have been able to stay away from neck surgery. Sometimes I just need an extra boost and I am always trying to stay positive.. but in this day and age sometimes I need someone who else has pain and understands, to say its okay to feel bad for yourself . I have never joined a support group so may e this will help keep me in a positive state. Hope so.

Have u tried a yoga ball chair? It’s supposed to improve posture which may help your neck pain, sitting at a computer all day.

Sitting is also my biggest obstacle. I also have tried everything without help. Not being able to sit is very limiting, something i always took for granted and never realized how important it is

I now take breaks when sitting on my sofa. I seem to have some arthritis in my tailbone--it comes and goes. I try sitting on the heating pad sometimes. Are you following any dietary or vitamin regimens? Perhaps that can help. Also, some stretching might make sitting easier.

I was monitored by a therapist. She started me with no weights--just leg lifting and then we went to using two lbs, then three--the four lb weights were probably the tipping point. I also had muscle wasting in my glutes as a result of my neuropathy--which may be due to my celiac disease. At another PT place, they went gungho and wanted me to do thirty reps of each exercise. If I said it was too much, then they told me that I was weak and would only face further degeneration. Be wary of PT--its not all its made out to be. Today I took a long walk around my local reservoir--had some pain but saw some honking geese and the resident swan. I told myself if I had arthritic feet, I would not have been able to walk this far. I had the MRI done but the doctor who is going to give me acupuncture says my problems were caused by the muscle wasting. I am not giving up!!!

Just commenting on physical therapists who show no common sense and give exercises appropriate to an athlete. My clinic’s PT department is in that category. I walked away because they were causing harm. I now need to do some letter writing to their administration cand ask why all are now assigned to what was pt for athletes. Unfortunately I still need to find a physical therapist capable of thinking n

There is a home exercise regime by Dr Forrest Tennant that I follow. Part of it is specific stretches 6 x day. I try to follow an anti inflammatory diet but I’m not much of a cook. I eat a lot of prepared foods (my spinal cord injury was at C8 so I don’t have any hand muscles) so it’s a bit difficult.

I have a feeling your experience--similar to mine--is very prevalent in the world of PT. If we wanted that level of challenge, we could have joined a gym. Maybe a personal trainer at the gym would have been more knowledgeable than these folk at PT. Since cancelling PT, I feel somewhat better and definitely more optimistic. I hope you get a response to your letter-writing. I will continue to do my stretching program on TV and do some walking. And, I will incorporate some home remedies including heating pad, epsom salt bath, bone broth and herbal teas. Please let me how your letter writing goes--if anything, it will be cathartic.

Laura, you do not need to be a chef to follow an anti-inflammatory diet. Try to eliminate sugar and you will do a world of good for yourself. Most of my food is easily prepared--mostly in oven. Many foods come pre-chopped like salads and many veggies. I cannot tolerate gluten so I am reading lots of labels and spending more on food but it is well worth it. I have not heard of Dr. Forrest Tennant. I am doing Classical Stretch every morning at 6 AM after dog-walking. I also try not to carry heavy in my hand bag and use a shopping cart at the supermarket as I do not drive. Hope your hands will heal!!

I feel your pain, Mia. I have had a daily persistent headache/migraine for 27 months every minute of every day. I have been treating at Jefferson Headache Center in Philadelphia with no luck. I am seeing a cervicogenic neck doctor now. Tomorrow I will be trying a vagus nerve stimulator. Hang in there and keep searching. Mikayla

I have had new daily persistent headaches for 35 years. Needless to say I have tried Soo many different remedies and none have helped!! I am trying to just accept the pain and living my life as normal as I can. The older I am the harder it is to really accomplish what I could do in my younger days

Smokey 2, No one should have to endure these headaches for so long. It seems that there should be something out there that can at least reduce the severity and/or frequency of them. Hopefully, some of the folks here on Mayo Connect will reach out with what helped them. My prayers are with you.

Hi 19lin. I'm to the point that I can't take this much pain. Surgery or
pills are a waste of time. I've always said , no offense to people that are
suffering with cancer, but after 33 yrs of this I'm backing in to a corner
with no way out. This is like cancer but no dr can tell me how long I have.
I'm now looking into marijuana use in my state. The govener is
decriminalized as of Jan. 2017 and there is a large push to make it legal
for medical use. I want to try it but if my dr tested me I will lose him,
we've had that discussion. I just don't know if it would help, so I'll wait
and see what happens in November when the people in this state will be
given a chance to vote for or against medical use. Both bills won't make it
until Jan. The federal government. has all the the Drs scared because of
the misuse of narcotics. To many people pretend to be in pain just to sell
there medicine, I've seen it add 4 to 500 to there monthly income. This
puts narcotics in the wrong hands. Excuse me for rambling I'm just lost and
don't know which way to turn. briansr
Many Drs don’t care if you take marijuana but some do. I just ask. My new Dr won’t allow it so I will have to stop.
I take gummies, they don’t really affect my pain directly but they do distract me from it, so in a way I do get relief.
