Weird intermittent quick inhale/exhale at random intervals

Posted by ljmontgo @ljmontgo, May 12, 2021

It rarely happens more than once in any giver hour but has been going on for weeks. I researched respiratory illnesses but couldn't find anything. Anyone have a clue what this might be?

I’ve had this random
”hick” without the “up”, as someone described it, for several months . My doctor referred me to a gastroenterologist but neither had ever heard of this condition and neither thought it was anything to worry about. The thing I have in common with everyone on this site is that I was put to sleep for a procedure prior to having these intermittent hick ups.

Very interesting comments! I have had intermittent breathing all my life!!!!! It is like having sleep apnea while awake as well!!! Saw respiratory specialists from when a child---and as an adult and have had sleep apnea testing---no worries----makes no difference to life as the body gets the air/oxygen it needs by breathing when it needs to!
When I am speaking at a conference, or with a person, or am walking, it seems I breathe normally. When at rest, like reading, watching TV or even actively making meals --I experience intermittent breathing. So at times my body makes a great big uhhhhhh to get air and then that is that. I am over 55 , had it all my life and has not caused me problems as am used to it .

I am a 68-year-old woman with a normal weight. For the past 1-2 months, I have been experiencing sudden, involuntary, unexpected short inhalations, resembling silent hiccups, occurring at random intervals—about 20-30 times a day. They are more frequent in the morning and at rest.

I have consulted a cardiologist, pulmonologist, and ENT specialist, but nothing significant was found. For several years, I have also had frequent throat clearing and, in the past, episodes of sleep apnea. This condition worries me, and I would like to ask you to describe your symptoms. Are they similar to mine? Did you find any explanation and treatment?Thank youin advance

I have had the same thing since March. I agree with another description that it’s like the first half of a hiccup. I’ve not had an event like surgery or a neck or chest injury. It rarely happens more than once an hour. Episodes happen hours apart.

Hello, I have the same complaints. I have no previous surgeries or any other incidents. Have you had any developments in terms of diagnosis and treatment?
