Weird CardioQ results

Posted by soggybones @soggybones, Apr 15 3:29pm

Hey all, I'm a 59 yo female who is very active and has never had any symptoms of heart disease. I did an advanced cardioQ test at Quest just for the heck of it and I was pretty upset at the results:

Total cholesterol-233
HDL-79
Non-HDL-154
Triglycerides-59
LDL-139

LDL particle number-2192!!!
LDL small particle number- 292!!
LDL-medium particle number-425!!
HDL large-9479!!

The above numbers were off the charts high!

my apo-B is 107
my lipo a is 18

Geez, Do I need to see a cardiologist?

soggybones, maybe an endocrinologist. High LDL particle numbers are often caused by insulin resistance or low thyroid function, and even metabolic syndrome. High HDL particle numbers are cardio protective.

@gently The weird thing is that I don't have diabetes, pre-diabetes, hypothyroidism nor any evidence of metabolic syndrome. I'm very active and fit and always have been. Admittedly, I don't always eat the best foods, but I've always been a healthy weight. So strange....I'm going to order the same test at Labcorp and see if it shows the same result. If it does I'll certainly discuss it with my GP and perhaps get a referral to a specialist. This result really freaked me out! Thank you for the reply! When I showed this to my husband he just said "meh, the lab must have screwed up". Meanwhile, I'm thinking: "I need to update my will and get my affairs in order!"

I'd see an endocrinologist and a cardiologist. See if you can have a Boston Heart Study done - it will tell you if you have a condition that is genetic for your numbers to be the way they are. That way they can get the right combo of drugs on board to fix your issue, according to what your genetics say.

When I entered all my data into ChatGPT I was told to get a cardiac calcium score to see if I have plaque build up. I never heard of the Boston Heart study. I will look that up. I'm scared to death with these numbers!
