Has anyone tried Wegovy for long-term weight management?
Has anyone ever tried Wegovy for weight management? I am considering it after my MD suggested I research and try it, I am approximately 45 pounds overweight.

1 Reaction@larry68 - I took semaglutide (Wegovy) before and lost 53 pounds. I did have pretty bad gastrointestinal side effects, so my doctor ultimately had me try tirzepatide (Zepbound or Mounjaro). By the time I got to the highest dose of tirzepatide and my insurance stopped covering me (and thus I stopped), I'd only lost 1 pound.
There are many what if's you could ask about my situation, such as what if was on the tirzepatide longer, but I don't know the answers. My insurance is again covering weight loss shots, and I'm back on semaglutide with a careful eye to any side effects and getting them taken care of immediately.
How has the tirzepatide (Mounjaro) experience gone for you?

1 Reaction@roch I have been taking mounjara for a year now and just wondering if one is better than other
@larry68
If you Google "Wegovy vs Mounjara," you will find some websites that explain. One of the better ones to explain differences is Weight Watchers:

Are you considering taking one or switching from one to the other?

1 ReactionI have been on Wegovy for nearly 2 years. The first year I lost 65 pounds very quickly and since then I have been maintaining and maybe losing a little bit more. I have suffered no ill effects at all except the first week when I felt slightly nauseated. But that stopped.
What I don't understand is what people have written about the cost. Yes, it's not cheap but I've never paid anywhere near $600 a month. It started at $250 and went up as my dosage increased. But now I am paying about $350 for a two month supply (one injection a week). I did find a pharmacy that was cheaper than the first one so I encourage you to look around. Part of the cost was the outrageous FedEx $50 overnight shipping (just across the state) - the 2nd pharmacy was able to ship it for $15.
Now there is the pill and I'm going to look into that. Requires a little more discipline (take 30 min. before eating in the morning) but I can do that. It can be a lot cheaper. I'm at the top Wegovy dosage so I don't know how that will affect the cost.
By the way, my PCP was thrilled that I wanted to do it and she was very encouraging. She has done a lot of research and is quite knowledgeable.
P.S. 15 years ago I had Rouen-Y gastric bypass surgery (lost 107 lbs) and then reqained about half of my weight loss because of stupid eating habits. Wegovy has helped me get my head on straight about eating properly.

3 Reactions@cheryl4mgk did you have the surgery (gastric) and how do you feel?
Just an aside on the topic of long-term weight management, this paper just came out: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40835770/. It's technically about plastic surgery after major weight loss from the GLP-1 RAs, but it provides useful data concerning long-term loss and subsequent regain after stopping these drugs. In my case, I'm assuming that I will never get off them, just like, say, statins -- my goal is to manage dosage to the lowest possible level to stay at my current weight. I've lost 45 pounds on zepbound/ozempic, and am planning to stay at this plateau as long as I can.

2 ReactionsI was doing a combination of Keto and intermittent fasting and hit a hard plateau in May 2025. My doctor and I discussed Wegovy so I'm currently on it. From May until August 2025 today I've lost 44 lbs! I've had only a small amount of nausea. Lots of constipation and diarrhea. And weird enough have had crazy insomnia. Other wise it works well on my appetite too. My weight in January was 319 I'm now 267 lbs. I still have alot to go! Good luck everyone!
