Has anyone tried Wegovy for long-term weight management?

Has anyone ever tried Wegovy for weight management? I am considering it after my MD suggested I research and try it, I am approximately 45 pounds overweight.

@jojobee267 - I take odansetron, but unfortunately you can't take it preventatively. So, at the slightest hint of nausea, I take one, and I sometimes suck on ginger chews or have ginger tea. However, sometimes I'm "too far gone" down the nausea trail, and I fight it for hours. Sometimes it's almost better to let myself go ahead and get sick, so at least I feel better afterward.

I also have taken hycosamine for stomach cramping, which does work in about 20 minutes. For diarrhea, I take loperamide (Imodium).

BTW, when my husband took semaglutide (Wegovy), he had virtually no symptoms.

When will you be starting the shots?

@lisalucier Thank you so much for the info. I am taking the Wegovy pills 1.5 mg. Since I am so sensitive to drugs, I am worried. I will just try it and see what happens. I think I will start Monday or Tuesday. Getting all of the bad crestor out of my system first.

@lisalucier I just got the RX and have not started yet! Sounds pretty awful and I am nervous to start. I am super sensitive to drugs/supplements so kind of expect the worst. Just had a terrible week with awful side effects from crestor (stopped after 6 days.) What do you do for the side effects?

@jojobee267 - yes, I've had diarrhea, nausea and random vomiting, and gut pains from semaglutide (Wegovy).

I have found that having a doctor or pharmacist allow me to stay on the same dose and not go up to the next dose till I am doing okay on the current dose has helped.

Have you talked to your prescribing doctor about potential side effects and how they would suggest dealing with them?

I was trying crestor for 6 days (LDL 106) and it made me super sick (nausea, muscle aches, felt like the flu!) I stopped because I could not handle feeling so sick. I was scared of crestor raising my blood sugar even more. Now, I qualified for Wegovy (Medicare bridge program/$50 month) Scared to start it because of the nausea/other side effects. And I need to lose 20-30 lbs.

Anyone have experience/side effects from Wegovy? I am SUPER sensitive to all medications/suppslements, as I have never taken any drugs at age 75.

Thank you.

@larry68 - I took semaglutide (Wegovy) before and lost 53 pounds. I did have pretty bad gastrointestinal side effects, so my doctor ultimately had me try tirzepatide (Zepbound or Mounjaro). By the time I got to the highest dose of tirzepatide and my insurance stopped covering me (and thus I stopped), I'd only lost 1 pound.

There are many what if's you could ask about my situation, such as what if was on the tirzepatide longer, but I don't know the answers. My insurance is again covering weight loss shots, and I'm back on semaglutide with a careful eye to any side effects and getting them taken care of immediately.

How has the tirzepatide (Mounjaro) experience gone for you?

If you Google "Wegovy vs Mounjara," you will find some websites that explain. One of the better ones to explain differences is Weight Watchers:

Are you considering taking one or switching from one to the other?
