Water retention in a young adult

Posted by lightandday @lightandday, 16 hours ago

I'm a 19 year old overweight woman who's been experiencing skin tightness and water retention for two years. My heart also races when i wake up (which is when my edema is the worst) and i feel groggy then. my skin is too oily too (idk if that's related to that but thought I'd mention it). I've done blood tests and found that my thyroid levels and accumulative sugar level r normal but my vit. D levels r extremely low. I've got family history of diabetes so im doing a fasting sugar blood test today. What do you think is the most probable diagnosis though?

I think you need a good check up overall, but they should check your heart. Fluid retention at your age is not normal. And yes, diabetes can be a contributor either type one or type two
You need to do a daily diary about your symptoms as they occur. Don’t put it off to a later time in the day. When you notice it how bad it is how long it last so long
This will help the doctor figure out what is going on
I wish the very best for you

Look into family history. My family low blood pressure until middle age then spiking.
I have known young people can have heart problems and I know some who passed very young.
Your doctor should be able to rule things out.
Do a diary. What you were doing, how it started, how long it lasted, how you felt afterwards, okay, week and so on.
That will give your doctor some good information.
Wish you the best.
