Wanted: Exercise buddy in NW SJC or S Duval

Posted by jamjohn @jamjohn, Oct 25, 2022

Anyone interested and available during day or early evening any or all days of the week?

Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the Transplants Support Group.

I'm not anywhere near you, but I really like this concept. I hope you find a fellow transplant recipient to be your exercise buddy!

@jamjohn, I know you're looking for an in-person walking buddy. While I can't connect you locally, I can recommend your joining the Connect virtual walking group here:
- Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/lets-go-walking-join-me-for-a-virtual-walking-support-group/

The group started in 2020 and members continue to join every day. All welcome.

Me too! and thank you @estrada53, for the reminder!
@jamjohn, Do you want to meet us there? Maybe we can encourage each other to get moving! I don't know about you, but I am not good about getting out in the colder weather.

I would love to join you! I’m in SJ County (Ponte Vedra Beach). Let me know how we can connect. I am 8 months post-liver transplant, 62 years old, and ready to reclaim my life.

@gerryp, I love your words: "...ready to reclaim my life." Walking iss what my transplant team and my PCP have always encouraged me to do. I used to have a group of ladies that walked with at the end of a day of teaching, it was both mentally and physically a blessing for all of us. Unfortunately that group has disbanded over the years, and I get lazy and make excuses for myself! I am in Kentucky, and I don't like wet of chilly weather, and have started dong treadmill at the gym during noncrowded time. I have been active in the Walking Group mentioned here and it was a constant reminder for me to get up and get moving. It is a place where members of all abilities and health conditions can encourage each other to keep on going. It began as a 12 week program that is described in the introduction to the Group Discussion.

Gerry, are you interested in leisure walking and chatting, or are you inclined toward the structured program as described in the beginning of the discussion?

I just would like to find a local walking buddy, someone with a similar experience, trying to regain strength & stamina. I have a few local friends, and my wife, but not a regular commitment. I think making a plan with someone else who is relying on you to show up, helps to keep us from making daily excuses. I am lucky to be here in FL, so weather is typically NOT an excuse! Sure beats Boston, where I lived pre-transplant.
