Waiting for surgery: How to manage the pain while I wait?

Posted by lilypaws @lilypaws, May 5, 2020

Since the Covid-19 I have to wait for Mayo Clinic to open up for elective surgeries. I have a lot of pain. I know I have sent the reason why before. Just can hardly wait I have so much pain.

@lilypaws, Mayo Clinic is opening up with prudence and safety first. See up-to-date information here: https://www.mayoclinic.org/covid-19

If you have an upcoming scheduled appointment and haven't been contacted by your provider’s scheduling office, please call to confirm or make any changes that you may need. http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63

Might you be able to request a teleconsult through the patient portal to talk to someone about pain control until you're able to have surgery?

@lilypaws I am so sorry for the pain you are having to deal with as a result of everything being delayed. I think Colleen's idea is a great one though, maybe you can get some help in pain relief with a call.
I hope it won't be too much longer until you can have your surgery and feel better, but of course, it's always better to be safe.

hi @kellyhahn1 Mayo just called me yesterday. My surgery is scheculed for June 9th & 11th if they need to do both sides of my body. I have to go May 17th and have a whole bunch of test done. I'm so excited. I go back the 7th of June, have to be swabbed and lab again to check for virus. Then see my surgeon and assistant surgeon to find out more about the surgery. Thank you for caring and reaching out! Blessings

@lilypaws I am so happy for you, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I think that makes the wait more bearable, knowing the end is in sight.
If you send a general note, it is part of the stream so everyone sees it, and putting the person's Connect name in it as you did with the @ sign in front of it alerts that person that there is a response to them. That can be very helpful if a person has limited time to look through responses.
Thanks for letting us know.

@contentandwell, @colleenyoung Thank you to both of you. It always works out if you have patience, which mine is low. I'm excited and anxious about this whole process. Was surprised how I have to go in on June 18th for a urine, blood, CT Scan, MRI and x-ray. I think I got all of them. On June 17th I have the Covid-19 swab and blood test. On the 18th I have EKG and chest x-ray. Then I will meet with the surgeon and his assistant to find out more about the surgery and he will give me an x-am. I'm tired just thinking about it. Blessings to both of you.

@lilypaws I think our patience does run low when we are in pain, but as I said, when we know there is an endpoint, we can be more patient. You have a lot in front of you, but hopefully, the end result will be all you are hoping for.
I can understand your excitement.

@contentandwell Thank you for your response about my post. Yes, I am starting to see the end point. I think getting past May 18th with all the tests I will feel better. I have depression and anxiety. I'm not depressed, but just anxious at times like right now. They did a test to see if the surgery would help. I had no pain after the test. The surgeons assistant told me that's the way I would feel after the surgery. I expect after I heal. So I am positive it will help me.
