Has anyone heard about IPF being a result of severe vitamin D deficiency? Are you taking a high dose of D as prescribed by your Doc.
No I haven't. I have taken vitamin D during the winter season for a lack of sunlight.
I have not heard this. I believe the "I" in IPF stands for "unknown cause".
"I" is for Idiopathic.. meaning the cause is not yet determined
What about the P & F?
Read another article about the importance of vitamin A for the prevention and treatment of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis .
My PCP says what i get in my multivitamin is all i need.
Does anyone else have information on the use of vitamin A? Studies, articles, and the like?

Sorry, should have been vitamin D not A.
IPF stands for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Pulmonary fibrosis is a lung disease that occurs when lung tissue becomes damaged and scarred. This thickened, stiff tissue makes it more difficult for your lungs to work properly. As @rcfan9 mentioned, "idiopathic" means that the cause of the pulmonary fibrosis is unknown.
Here's more info about PF https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/pulmonary-fibrosis/symptoms-causes/syc-20353690
As this article from Pulmonary Fibrosis News explains, the use of vitamin D as a protective factor in pulmonary fibrosis holds promise, but research is in the very early stages (studying in mice not humans) https://pulmonaryfibrosisnews.com/2015/12/10/pulmonary-fibrosis-study-points-protective-effects-vitamin-d/
Also note that the study was specifically for bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis.
I stands for Interstitial. There fore a known cause that we really don't know much about. I have IPF along with several other interstitial diseases (liver, thyroid,ra) which they believe is caused by the inflamation over 40 yrs of untreated RA. Of course they is no known cure for any of them.
ignore my last post. I forgot it meant idiopathic.
some times people related the secondary reason as a main reason for the thing that happened, after a while not really short , people keep it in mind as is the main. But probably deficiency in D is the secondary reason in the disease as not helping bones reason will lead to less exercise and less walking which lead in the long term to some respiratory diseases without the intention and without paying attention to the main reason. Is jut my brain storm not a fact.
