Visual Snow Variant (technically not Visual Snow Syndrome)
A small region of my visual field (maybe 1-2%) shows blinking dots. Visual Snow Syndrome (VSS), by definition, affects the entire visual field. The dots are greyscale when I wake up in a dark room and multi multicolored once there is enough light to perceive color. Also, the affected area can change shapes. It may resemble a J, an L, an S or a blob.
I’ve seen a retina specialist, a neuro-opthomologist and had a brai MRI which showed no abnormalities. So far no one has any real idea of what to do except to possibly have an electroretinal scan and that seems like grasping at straws since VSS is viewed as a neurological issue. Here is an excellent recent NIH article about VSS.

I’ve tried dietary changes and eliminated eye drops. I’ll update this thread if I learn anything that helps. Thanks for any suggestions.

You might also want to check the Visual Snow Initiative site — it’s the main research hub and has a support group where some people describe more localized variants like yours. Eye on Vision and the Reddit Visual Snow group are also good for connecting with others who’ve seen specialists at Mayo and UCSF.
