Visual Escapes and Daily Inspirations: Share Yours

Posted by John, Volunteer Mentor @johnbishop, Mon, Mar 16 6:25pm

Let's create a space to offer a daily reprieve.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a lot of uncertainty and fear into our lives. Some of that fear and uncertainty can be caused by over thinking what is going on or unnecessarily worrying. So, I'm making sure I wash my hands frequently, not touching my face, staying away from social gatherings and all of the recommended guidelines to help avoid getting or spreading COVID-19 but it can be a little boring. I try to not watch news all day long while I'm in this self imposed captivity. I like to take pictures of birds and other creatures from my window as a welcome break.

I invite you to join me in sharing pictures, favorite poems, sayings, mottos, funny moments. Let's take a daily break together.

OH, Z, @zeiracorp, i can't stop laughing! Don't you Dare think of "retiring" from this wonderful Visual Escapes forum…would have to get on my "whiches" broom and come after ya!! Of course, no competition among fellow staplers but just so ya know, I have Both the older grey as well as newer red Swinglines….now if I could find an old geezer who still has his own teeth to do some toe tappin' "swingin'" with.

They saved this for me at one of the thrift shops I visit. I had seen it from a distance in a box of things being donated and I said, "You're getting a brass lamp with a brass shade. I'd like to see it when you get it processed-in." To be honest, I didn't see what the plate on it said until I got it home. It is intact except for some scratches and a couple shallow ripples in the shade. Pretty good all-around. I did not know they made replicas of this. What a cool find!

Just in case anyone was curious about the newest member of our family (the puppy, not my kids :)). Meet Maggie, our mini bully terrier mix!

@amandanburnett She is going to be a fairly good sized pupper if her feet are any indication! what a cutie! You know we will want [demand?] visual updates on her progress to adulthood, along with proof of antics involved!

On the subject of olives, I love the Spanish olives with pimento but also love kalamata olives too. Yum!

Might be the coolest thing I've come across in those shops yet.
The bulk of what I always buy (for near nothing) is CAT 5e or CAT 6, AC power cords, VGA, phone, USB, and digital video cords, and really any other kind of stuff like that I come across because it works just as good as new and the new stuff is quite expensive. I jokingly told the lady at the counter today that when I die someone will be in with a huge bin full of cords to donate. She thought that was pretty funny. Hey it's recycling and giving back. 🙂

I love these wlld flowers in the woods between my house and my neighbors. If they weren't on his side of the property line, I would be digging up a few to transplant them next to the side of the road where it's too steep to mow. I think these are Scarlet Bee Balm plants. I think they would be nice along with some transplanted Daylilies.

@lioness when I used to have a cocktail or two, I love olives in my martinis. As I mature, I can't tolerate alcohol anymore. So, no more olives.
