Vick’s Vapor Rub for Neuropathy Pain

Posted by avmcbellar @avmcbellar, Nov 29, 2020

Has anyone tried rubbing Vick’s Vapor Rub on their legs or arms for neuropathic pain? I wonder if it would feel cool on the skin with the burning pain. It would certainly help soften the feet.

Hi Rick, That's an interesting question. I have not seen any information discussing it but that's not to say it doesn't exist. One of the good places I've found for a layman type person like myself to learn more about neuropathy is Matthew B Jensen's YouTube channel. He is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Wisconsin. The Sensory overview video explains how it all fits together.

Wow thanks for that link, great videos!

I have found this most helpful, and no, it doesn't appear to stain bedding or carpets.

I put it on my feet last night and then put socks on. It seemed to calm my pain as I did not wake up in the middle of the night in pain. I just put some on my feet today, so going to try it again.

Welcome @willisann, Thanks for sharing that the Vick's Vapor Rub on your feet got you through the night without pain waking you up. Hopefully it will help during the day also.

Have you been diagnosed with neuropathy?

Perifical neuropathy. I had two back surgeries within 2 weeks. I developed the neuropathy after the second surgery. That was six months ago. I still use a walker as my feet are so bad. I am not diabetic. I kind of had a double whammy....I tore my menicus and had to have surgery as I tore it going to my phy therapy session.. Ready for healing. They want me to try and use a cane so am using that some, thank you for the welcome. .....Am going to continue the use of the Vicks as I used it today and got relief also...

I’m so sorry. I hope you start feeling better. I’m going to try that Vicks since I will try anything that helps with Neuropathy. I don’t have Diabetes either. I just developed akathisia after stopping antidepressants after 16 years. I’ve heard that intermittent fasting helps with Neuropathy since it apparently grows new nerves in mice, so I’m going to try that.

I have tried Vicks and it does seem to help, but the smell lingers. I also have Cramp Fasciculation syndrome and use Zims Max Freeze (menthol is primary ingredient) I love it for tingling and pain.

I do hope that works for you. I understand the "I will try anything:" because that is where I am at. I read where someone mixes Voltareen with the Vicks...I may try that also. It is all so frustrating. I had not read that about the intermittent fasting..Let us know how that works for you.. Good luck and I hope you find something that can give you some relief.

Never tried the Zims, however if the menthol is the primary ingredient, that is what the vicks has and the menthol does help. I didn't want to go around smelling like vicks but am willing too since it helps. I many try the Zims, thank you

Yes, Vicks helps with neuropathy pain and burning. It did for me and I pray it will help you as well. Neuropathy socks has helped more than anything! Please give them a try🙏🏻

After I posted this about neuropathy socks, I find I must re-think it. Since using them that one time which was so beneficial, they have not helped the numerous times I’ve tried them afterwards. I have no idea why. The pain is to the point I don’t know what to do.
