Can cancer or anemia cause Vertigo?

My friend with kidney cancer also has anemia. Lately she has been having vertigo. Does anyone know if vertigo can be caused by cancer or anemia?

Yes anemia can cause dizziness. And I have been told that chronic kidney disease can cause anemia so perhaps that is true of kidney cancer. What kind of anemia is it?

There are lots of types of vertigo which different treatment approaches. BPPV is from the dislodgement of ear crystals and can be tested by a PT. There are maneuvers that can be done at home. Then there is Meniere's, and vestibular neuritis, vestibular migraine, labyrinthitis.

My mother had severe kidney disease and anemia but she also had vertigo from BPPV. But it is probably likely that your friend's vertigo is from anemia which is from the kidney cancer. What does their doctor say?

I'm sorry your friend has vertigo plus all of her other problems. I have vertigo also. It mostly happens when I look up at a tree or a plane. I find that if I avoid looking up I have no vertigo. It's not much fun but it works. If she can figure out what activity causes her vertigo, it may help to avoid that activity.
Good luck!

I also get dizzy looking up. This started after I took a nasty fall and hit my head pretty hard. This discussion has me wondering if I have BPPV. I think I’ll look into having this treated. Thanks.

Dizziness looking up can be BPPV but also cervical vertigo or cervical stenosis. But a good place to start is a PT who does evaluation for BPPV. They use goggles attached to a computer to watch if nystagmus happens with certain maneuvers (eye movements).

Hi Seabright2001!
That fall you had sounds terrible! It probably caused your dizziness. However, you are right in seeing a doctor. There could be something more wrong than just the dizziness. That could just be a symptom. My dizziness is an inner ear issue and is associated with age; I'm 77. Prayer also works! God made you and he can fix you! I wish you the best! I'll say a prayer for you.

I’m also 77, and I thank you for your kind words. This fall happened about a year ago and I did go to the emergency room for stitches and have seen my PPC since then. The dizziness has improved quite a bit since it first happened but I will discuss this with my PPC at my next annual checkup.
