Vaginal burning: What could it be?
I am a 67 year old who in the last two months have a severe burning sensation in my vaginal area. I have been to every specialist and no one knows why. I have had a CT, Ultra sound, and been examined numerous times. There are no findings to what is causing this pain. I have no underlying medical conditions. Prior to this I was extremely healthy. Now I am in pain management and desperately want to be off pain medication and find a Dr who can diagnose what is happening to cause this burning. Any suggestions would be extremely welcome.

I hope you find relief, I myself have "pain" that the doctors don't know what is causing it. It feels like burning, but "pain". I have been to urogynacologist, pain doctor, neurologist, pelvic floor. Ive tried pregabalin, I am now on gabapenten /baclofen suppositories as well. Mine may be nerves, or a failed anterior surgery. Or both. But , none the less, I'm feeling no hope, and desperate for help.
@lmprap I went to the an acupuncture clinic specializing in women's health and used estradiol
Vagina suppositories daily. It made a huge difference.l for me. My burning was a pain of 10 at times. I get it. Hope this helpful. Blessings

2 ReactionsHave you had a dna urine and vaginal analysis? Low level infections can cause the sensation of burning but not be found on the normal in office analysis with culture.
Also, are you using any products, hormones or probiotics in your vaginal area. I have found that I have a reaction to hyaluronic acid in vaginal suppositories.
I may have blogged on this site before concerning vaginal burning which I no longer have after suffering for years. I couldn't tolerate the vaginal creams or cortisone because of allergies, but I have been saved using a time released ring of silicone with time released localized estrogen for several years now.
Estring is outrageously expensive even with my Medicare pharmaceutical insurance. Yet I am grateful everyday for this prescription which is self inserted with your finger into the vagina for 3 months and then self removed and replaced.
NO more burning, itching, yeast infections, pain or odor. My vaginal lining has toughened up, the thinning due to age (now 77) and lack of estrogen's has reversed. Normal lubrications have returned. Pleasurable intercourse with my husband has returned. He's as grateful as I am.

The silicon ring of estrogen is lacking some if not all of the irritants that are in some of the creams.
A compounded estrogen can also help IF the compounder is alerted to remove the most common offenders.
Versabase seems to be the base that is least likely to cause a reaction plus it eliminates a lot of the additives that commonly cause reactions.
I made a list and went thru them with my compounder.
"Common additives in vaginal creams, gels, and lubricants that can cause a burning, stinging, or irritation sensation include propylene glycol, glycerin, parabens, and various fragrances. These additives are often used to stabilize the product, act as preservatives, or enhance texture, but can be irritating to sensitive mucosal tissue, especially if that tissue is already inflamed or dry." https://shopwithmerakico.com/blogs/news/when-lubricants-backfire-how-common-ingredients-can-disrupt-your-vaginal-microbiome.,them%20dry%2C%20damaged%2C%20and%20inflamed
Hi. I feel for you! I'm not sure that this is relatable but I have had extreme burning and an itching sensation in that area and also in the rectal area. After a lot of testing my doctor said to me that it was caused by extreme anxiety about my health. This is not to say....it's all in your head...but for me that was it! Also this is a catch 22....because how do you stop the worrying and anxiety about the thing that is causing the worry and anxiety? But with determination and relaxing techniques I was able to overcome most of it.
