Vacuum pump - Dr Walsh disagrees
There are two recommendations often made around here.
One is Dr Patrick Walsh's Guide to Surviving Prostate Cancer.
The other is the benefits of trying a vacuum pump to aid recovery.
But Dr Walsh say: "... Also, because this approach does not bring new blood flow into the penis (huh? Isn't that exactly what it's for?), it may not do much to facilitate the recovery process. Some men are highly satisfied with the result of vacuum devices; the majority are not."
That's not what everyone around here says.

The problem with me is that I didn't get any rehab instructions from the urologist - other than "use it or lose it". Yeah.... thanks, Doc.
I'm also wondering if I should switch from 5mg of Cialis daily to 20mg every other day.
I really don't want atrophy - which I understand could lead to more incontinence issues.
And I still don't know about a pump. Does it provide oxygenated blood, or not?
Or you could just stroke it. Seriously, all this pump talk just has me shaking my head lol
The same thing happens to me but not every time, just sometimes. KY brand seems to work best for me but even still every now and again I break out.
I had radiation and am on 20 mg of Viagra daily for two years for penile rehab. For sexual activity I initially needed 100 mg but now take 50. If I'm flying solo I can get by on just 20.

1 ReactionThanks, guys. Sounds like the pump's not that great after all.
For me, the pump was a game changer. I’d had ED for years before my cancer diagnosis and treated it somewhat effectively with Viagra. Post-radiation the blue pill was almost completely ineffective, so my urologist suggested Trimix or a VED. They each worked separately to a certain degree, but not enough for penetration. Now I use them in combination with an injection first, then the VED several minutes later. The result is the best erections I’ve had in years.

4 ReactionsWhat are you using for injections, I have been to the ER twice in past 2 months using Trimix at $150 for each vile . Poor erection but painful burning that along with the poor erection sometimes last for 3-4 hrs . I’ve tried 2 different . If I can neverformulas but still side effects, going back to a stronger Bimix if that does work I give up. I would have an implant but I don’t have any feeling in my penis the few times I’ve had penetration. I have to assume damage to my nerves were damaged, can they heal ?? Have my one year check up inn2 weeks , hope to get an honest answer . If I can never feel any pleasure or ever have an orgasm again , I need to know so I don’t waste my $$ on injections.

1 ReactionQuestion for the group. My RARP was non nerve sparing, 10/23, so ED is permanent. I’ve been in a pretty much sexless marriage since way before surgery so the non nerve sparing part was just kind of the final nail in the coffin. Since my prostatectomy almost two years ago I’ve come to grips that this is just my life and I’m good with that. I love my wife dearly and she loves me. Physical intimacy just isn’t in the cards for us and masturbation, which once held some allure, is pretty pointless. At this point I’m not interested in trimix or inserts or pills or pursuing a sexual life that is dead and gone. So, my question is this. Apart from all sexual considerations, and given the reality of permanent ED, does a VED provide any physiological penis health benefits? I’m particularly thinking about shrinkage and turtleing or hidden penis and tissue health. After my RARP I bought a VED (Erecaide manual) but haven’t used it in several months. I’m not thinking about the use of constriction rings. Just in and out blood flow. Pump up. Deflate. Like push ups. It’s been hard to find any information for us non nerve sparing guys.
Have you tried Trimix? People who have had all nerves removed have been able to get significant erections with Trimix or even Bimix. Speak to your urologist about this.
After my RARP, with no nerve sparing, I was able to get fairly good erections with a pump and was able to climax, Though it wasn’t stiff enough for intercourse. Even without any erection at all, rubbing the right spot on the penis can get a very significant climax, though my wife did help when doing it. ADT ended that experience.

2 ReactionsThank you Jeff. At this point I’m not interested in erections or orgasm. Given our relationship it is pointless (as she’s just not interested) or even self serving, so different avenues to erectile function or orgasm are not where I’m heading. What I AM interested in is keeping this bit of flesh healthy and maybe, maybe not shrinking completely out of site, but thanks for the suggestions. I went through a long period of angry, depressed grieving over this final nail in the coffin and I’m moving on. At this point, just interested in keeping things healthy. One thing I don’t see in these forums is help for guys whose nerves are just gone. I know, trimix and implants, but that doesn’t address the rage and depression. Ahh, I’m heading down a path I don’t want to travel again. I’m over it, but maybe not all the way over it. At this point, just maintain health.
