Chronic UTI: How do you prevent them?

Posted by mader62 @mader62, Jun 8, 2019

How can a person prevent UTI's? I seem to get one every year & there is always blood in my urine.

So glad to hear from you, @parus. It is good to know that the clotting did stop. Do you have an appointment with an oncologist in the near future? It will be good when you have more information and a plan on how to proceed.

@hopeful33250 Back to the Urologist this afternoon for results of biopsy. See what then. Dealing with several things at one time has me worn out and highly agitated and quite grumpy. I just want to stay home where I feel safe. Being poked and prodded by men is causing relapses. Can't be helped. All I ever see is the PA. I would not even know the doctor as I have never met him. Pretty fed up but still making appointments for now.

I appreciate hearing from you with your update, @parus. Seeing PAs seem to help save the doctor time but I understand your frustration about not knowing what the doctor even looks like. Hopefully, the doctor will at least make an appearance.

Regarding the prodding by men and relapses, there are many of us who don't do well in that situation. it really does trigger stuff from the past, doesn't it?

Hang in there and keep strong. I hope you are able to post again after your appointment. I would like to know what the next steps will be.

@parus I hope things go well for you this afternoon. Sometimes when I am making an appointment I discover they are making it with an NP or a PA. I speak up and tell them I want to see the doctor. Generally, I have to wait longer, but I feel more confidence in doctors than I do in NPs. Since you have an already diagnosed condition though, I think they should have you seeing the doctor, not the PA.

Please do post afterward to let us know how things went and what they had to say.

Appointment yesterday resulted in another referral to another specialist. The tumor is an aggressive type of cancer. Now waiting on another specialist and appointment. @hopeful33250 Yes, this does cause flashbacks. Also unusual for a woman to have bladder cancer. Feeling like I am being offered to the slashers with no encouragement. They have left me feeling as good as dead and nothing more than a filthy woman. They would not be this cold with another man. I have always been treated lesser than. In a hard place and would rather just let the cancer do its thing rather than being treated like it seems I am being treated. Currently despondent. So much for being a supportive member. Hopefully there is something to be learned by someone.

@lioness Why doctors allow the peons to carry out the bad news. They are terrified of someone recognizing them!!! Sad attempt at humor.

@parus I'm so sorry to hear about your bladder cancer Is it possible to have surgery to remove the bladder ? I know this is scary but if the cancer is contained only to bladder they could remove it and attach the ureters to intestines .Let us know about your next appt. Thinking and praying for you. I hear your fear in you writing your fear I'm having a fear right now as Dr wants me to consider a spinal cord stimulator put in this is scary for me .Not convinced I protect my heart from anything like this or surgery ,

@parus oh, I’m so sorry about your news. On the bright side, there are female urologists! Please look for one. Becky
