UTI and sepsis: Can you get sepsis again?

Posted by nanahatton65 @nanahatton65, Sep 23 7:11am

I recently was hospitalized for lung infection, when I was in the hospital I got sepsis.. I was released in 4 days.
Now I have a severe UTI and I’m on an antibiotic ( ciprofloxacin)). My GP referred me to a nephrologist. My question is can you get sepsis again???

@nanahatton65 Yes, you can get sepsis again, according to a simple information search.

I am curious why your primary care referred you to a nephrologist? Do you know have decreased kidney function? If so, what are your numbers?

Are you feeling better?

I’ve had issues practically all my life with urethra problems. I was diagnosed recently when I was in the hospital for lung issues, got sepsis. Diagnosed with kidney disease with benign hypertension. My last infection was a doozy, hard time urinating. Put me on strong antibiotics, feeling better, but my GP referred me to a nephrologist. I’m now 79 years old. I will find out my numbers at my visit with the specialist. I’ve also had many dilations when I was younger. I also have a pacemaker because I have tachycardia and hypertension/heart disease. It’s a long history I’d have to explain everything. Thanks for getting back with me, I appreciate it

I was just hospitalized for Sepsis and a second UTI in a month! I was released on Saturday 2 weeks ago then admitted in the ER the next morning my bladder was good but found out I had a pocket of pneumonia! We think my father died from sepsis so I’m not messing around with it

If you don't mind me asking are you in menopause? The reason why i asked is i was getting uti's every few months. I then went to see a urologist and she told me i needed to start using an estrogen cream to build up the thickness of my personal area. Menopause makes your skin so thin that bacteria can easily get in. I don't get them anymore since i have been using the estrogen cream. I only use a pea size amount 2× a week. I did have to do it for 3wks every night when i started. Good luck to you. UTI is not something to play around with. I pray you make a full recovery. God bless
