When I used to get chronic UTIs 3-4x a year I used OC Pyridium. It's the only thing that stopped the pain for me. I agree with using estrogen cream. You don't have to use it in the vagina although it would keep your bladder healthy because the vagina and bladder share the same wall. You can use the local non-systemic estradiol cream the size of a pea in the vulva (outer area) and urethra. That whole area has estrogen receptors. Coconut oil isn't going to stop any vulva, or urethra atrophy (goggle, urogenital atrophy). Lack of estrogen weakens the muscles of your urethra. This makes it easier for bacteria to enter your urethra and move up to your bladder. Estrogen keeps the thinning vulva and urethra at the correct pH. Estrogen helps vulva tissues and urethra stay elastic and moist. Please reconsider. There is a whole host of disabling unpleasant things that can happen with a lack of estrogen in this area. When I started using estrogen around the vulva my UTIs stopped. I am 74 and haven't had a UTI in 13 years or anything that feels like a UTI.

Thanks for this...have just started estrogen rx cream and was unsure how it would work with a UTI and atrophy at the same time..had anti biotic for the UTI and it was cleared up. But was told I would have t use the cream for the rest of my Life! Good to know that the cream will help with possible reinfections.Have never used these things before so just learning.(at 85!)

In a drug store CVS, Walgreens, Walmart etc. There are different strengths. I used AZO fast relief urinary pain relief 99.5 mg. No prescription is needed. There are other brands also. When I used to get UTI the doctors gave me a prescription for Pyridium which is a stronger dose. Your urine will be orange in color. The drug facts say it is not harmful. Any clothes in contact with urine will be permanently stained orange...so you will probably want to wear a panty liner. Despite this negative, the stuff works. You can't use it indefinitely. They recommended no more than 12 pills (this is for the 99.5 mg) it might be different for the lower OC dose. In the future (hopefully not) ask for a prescription so insurance pays for it. The active ingredient is "Phenazopyridine Hydrochloride"

This is an article from Oprah Daily on aug. 14th, 2024 "Menopause Treatment Nobody Is Talking About, it's safe, localized, and relieves a slew of painful symptoms. So why is it nearly impossible to get? "
I can't get the whole article because it's behind a paywall.
"There is a quiet crisis brewing in women’s health, and it goes by three little letters: GSM. Genitourinary syndrome of menopause, a mouthful of a term, affects millions of women each year—as many as a whopping 84 percent of women during and following the menopausal transition.

GSM encompasses a series of chronic, progressive symptoms that affect the vagina and vulva as well as the bladder and urinary tract. A direct result of decreased estrogen, GSM can cause vaginal dryness, itching and irritation, painful sex, and urinary tract infections (UTIs), among other excruciating symptoms. All of the above significantly affect women’s daily quality of life, long-term health, and even longevity. For example, frequent UTIs can lead to loss of mobility, mental confusion in women over 65, and deadly sepsis infections."

Below is a quote from DR Kelly Casperson's podcast. I included the link to the podcast. I'm not sure if it's allowed, or even work, it's from Spotify. If the link works start at the 6-minute mark.
"Vaginal estrogen is incredibly low Dose, how low dose, so low dose that a year of vaginal estrogen is equivalent to 1 oral estradiol pill, incredibly low dose. If you have a uterus, you do not need to use progestin if you are just going to use vaginal estrogen."
Women for the past 20 years have been told estrogen will kill you. The Women's 2002 Initiative has been debunked and the inaccuracies are being revealed. How do we undo the harm of 20 years of deep conditioning? It will probably take another 20 years in the meantime many women will suffer needlessly, just like they have for the past 20 years. I'm sorry if I seem pushy or disrespectful. Everyone has the right to choose what's right for them.
The name of this Spotify podcast is "Myths and Truths-GSM and Pelvic Hormones".
