I am currently in tolerance taking 30mg a day of Serepax (Oxazepam). I want to get off the benzo and realize I have to taper after 15 years of being on it. Has anyone used CBD oil minus the THC to taper off benzo’s?
@merpreb I have used Hemp oil and the seeds I put in my smoothie also on skin Didn't realize out of 1 little plant there is so much and many uses Thanks

Hello, my niece was diagnosed with RA also and she is a pharmacist and knows the side effect to the medicine for RA is so bad for your organs, so she went to a holistic doctor. She is only 32 and was in such pain. Now that she is seeing Dr.Susan (holistic doctor) and on certain vitamins she is doing great! She also uses CBD oils and they are working great!

@kimba– Good morning. Yes, CBD oil seems to be beneficial for a lot of people in a lot of different ways. Thank you for sharing your story. It must be very difficult to see your niece in pain.
Yes, she was to the point of being bedridden for days, now she is back for herself and doing great!

HI, @kimba – your niece's experience might be something you'd also want to post about in this Connect discussion about rheumatoid arthritis, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/rheumatoid-arthritis-ra-introduce-yourself-and-meet-others.
Re getting off anti psychotic medication and other meds
My son has been using CBD tincture for the past 6 months and has been weaned off of Guanficine and Clonopin and is doing better than he was when taking those drugs. Has anyone had experience weaning off of an atypical antipsychotic in conjunction with using CBD. After dong some research on the internet getting off an anti psychotic may be much harder I understand CBD has been effective with some in getting off anti psychotic mds. . Any guidance advice comments appreciated or perhaps Mayo has another site that addresses this?? Thanks
HI, @stephanieann – what I'd suggest would be to start a new discussion specifically on the antipsychotic medication you'd like to taper off of in the Mental Health group https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/mental-health/. Click on the gray "Start a discussion" box to begin. I think others would benefit from this discussion, as well.
@merpreb Hope your having a good day. I think I bought them from Vitacost Usually buy from them
@lioness – I just saw them on there! Lol. How do you judge how much to use along with the oil? I'm having a good day. Are you?
@merpreb Good question but as I understand the seeds are different for the cbd oil as the oil is from the flowers but seeds are whole not exposed to CO pressing ,not right word but know what I mean

How is your taper going? I've been slowly tapering for about 1year from 3mg Clonazepam (it's also been about 8 years at this level although I have been taking Clonazepam for about 20yrs total using 2mg as a maintenance dose) and have been steady for the last 6months or so at 1.5mg. I'm quite proud of that. Because I've noticed that I feel sharper and better without the higher doses of Clonazepam, I've decided to further taper down to 1.0mg last week with the help of CBD capsules (from Aurora). It has helped tremendously with both tapering and withdrawal symptoms. I'd like to know how your journey has been as we are both tapering from the same drug. Are you still taking CBD to help with your taper?
Something I'm wondering about, re using CBD to help with tapering off (in my case) Clonazepam — CBD inhibits the activity of the Cytochrome P450 enzyme group in the liver, which ordinarily metabolizes away the benzos and many other drugs after they've been in the body for a while. So, when CBD is present, many drugs persist in the body longer, and have more effect, than they would without CBD present. The benzos are listed as one of the drug classes with which CBD interacts in this way — so couldn't they be potentiating the benzos, making them last longer in the system, and have more effect, than they would otherwise? (Grapefruit is another, more widely known Cytochrome P450 inhibitor, which is why we don't eat grapefruit when taking tetracycline, for example).
Does anyone have any idea how significant this would be for the use of CBD to help with weaning off Clonazepam?
I weaned my son off clonazepam successfully very slowly using CBD as a substitute. He was taking clonazepam twice a day. I first lowered the dose in the evening very slightly. After a few weeks then lowered the mg of the morning . He was taking CBD every 4-6 hours. Gradually then went to removing the evening dose and then finally the am dose. I did this with the direction of his psychiatrist although she was not that knowledgeable about CBD. It took a few months to take him off clonazepam. Also increased the CBD slightly as well when I lowered the clonazepam dosage. I had heard that CBD could interact potentially with the medication but not that significant if you go very slowly in tapering.
Hi, @swimjay, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Just thought you might also be interested in checking out this thread, "Klonopin taper," https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/klonopin-taper
I've been taking CBD while tapering Valium. Down to 2mg V per day. The cbd has some sedating anti-anxiety effects but I dont know that it helps get off. Any others with expereince please weigh in.
I've been on and off benzos for years..now down to 2mg Valium. I've been using pure CBD the last few weeks to assist. The CBD does not seem to prolong the effect of VAlium at least at my low dose.
CBD has certainly helped me with tapering off clonazepam. I'm currently down to 0.375mg from 1.5mg – 2mg. Sleep is touch and go though.
