Upper Right Side Nasal And Under Eye Swelling

Posted by Sanctification @tourettes, Feb 11, 2023

What is causing upper internal swelling of nasal cavity and swelling on outside under the right eye. PCP says sinus on that side is pretty much closed. She also noted a lot of swelling under and near area on the outside also. I h above had CT Scans in the past because of this and all come back normal. How can this be? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello @tourettes, I see that you are a long time member of Connect and this is your first post so I would like to officially welcome you to Connect. While we wait for members with similar experience to respond, I thought I would share this information that might be helpful:

"Can you have sinusitis with normal CT scan?
Many reports indicate that CT underestimates the degree of mucosal inflammation. Therefore, a normal sinus CT scan result does not necessarily indicate normal sinuses. Patients with chronic sinusitis are often heavily treated with anti-inflammatory medications, antibiotics, and even systemic corticosteroids."

I've always had a plugged up nostril but no noticeable swelling and a Mayo ENT gave me a proprietary nasal spray that really helped. Have you thought about seeing an ENT or getting a referral from your PCP?

Thank you very much for responding. I have seen several ENT Drs. They all take a CT Scan and tell me your sinuses look great. I have had this lingering pain in one area next to my right eye for years. It is felt up in my right nostril as well. I can touch the pain if I use a saline spray in that area. It now is causing pain in my right eye as well, with blurry vision at times also. I have taken steroid sprays and they do not seem to help. I am sensitive to medications. I Recently went to a Eye Specialist and they checked for a blocked tear duct, and I don't have that either. I have another appointment with another ENT and I am hoping that someone can get to the bottom of this for me. The swelling outside my eye gets painful.

One more thing to consider --- I had an infected tooth that presented the same symptoms. After a root canal and a crown, the facial pain went away. The sinus still swells shut from time to time.
Have you seen your dentist?

Yes, I did that also, and had my wisdom teeth extracted years back now. I know seems like everything I have already done. Gets to be very annoying. I have to wonder about trigeminal neuralgia? I don't know if this would cause the inflammation, pain and swelling in just one area by my eye though? I appreciate your responses.
