Updates To Vision Problems

Hi Everyone, it has been a while since I checked in and I want to update everyone one my situation. I guess the biggest news is that as of yesterday I am on Actemra self injections. I was a little nervous about using it properly, but my Rheumatologist did a very good job of explaining how to use the injector and he walked me though a dry run so I did OK for my first injection. So far I am not seeing any horrible side effects but it has been only 24 hours. One thing I do notice is my tummy is a bit grumbly and I am staying aware of this and will let my Dr. know if it gets serious. One other thing I am noticing on the plus side is that some aches and pains that I have been putting up with since I started Prednisone over a year ago have eased or disappeared and I am attributing that to the Actemra so that is a check in the "W" column. My Dr. has told me I will likely be on the Actemra for at least two years so I guess I am in this for the long haul.

Sadly, unless the future develops in a way I am not anticipating I will also be on the Prednisone for the rest of my life. My Doctors have tried several times to get me below 20Mg of Prednisone per day and each time my vision has tanked big time. Maybe several months on he Actemra I will be able to get below 20Mg of Prednisone but I am not holding my breath.

Speaking of my vision tanking the area where I live has been having some very extreme temps in the 105 degree range with very high humidity. I don't know if it is the extreme heat and humidity or some thig else but I am noticing a severe and significant decline in the quality of my vision. The darkness is getting more and more prominent and predominant and my entire Field of View is getting more and more flat and lacking in detail and contrast. Some days I just see shapes with absolute minimum detail. Has anyone else experienced this??

I think this is all the updates I have for now. Thoughts are appreciated. I will post more as I get additional information. Thanks everyone.

I'm so sorry you are having such difficult vision problems! That is awful! I'm 80 and have worn glasses since I was 6 so I have some understanding about vision issues. However, yours seem quite severe. I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa in 2010 which is supposed to end in blindness but it hasn't. They said mine was a mild case. What you are describing with your sight getting more dark and your field of vision diminishing sounds like what the Retinitis Pigmentosa was supposed to be but didn't progress that far. You might want to ask your doctor if you have Retinitis Pigmentosa.

Also ask God for help. He made you and he can fix you! I'll say a prayer for you also.
I wish you the best!
