Update on my Burning sensation 6 weels post Prostate surgery

Posted by mpersonne @mpersonne, 1 day ago

As you might already know, ive posted previously of the burning sensation ive been having while urinating. Its still happening, and i still have until next Tuesday to finsih my antibiotics. TO RECAP, on April 14th, it was my 3 week follow up from having catheter removed. A few days before the visit, i was starting to get some burning at the end of emptying my bladder, and sometimes it was very painful. I discussed this with the doctor on my visit, and he assured me it was still healing process, and its more than likely scabs falling off where the uretha and bladder were sewn together, and the urine is passing over the raw areas. I took is word, so I continued on, and taking Ibuprofen for some relief. The weekend went by, and nothing was helping, so i started to take over the counter AZO, and that really didnt help either. On that Monday, i called doctors office to see what my urine culture came back with, and it was negative for a UTI. I told them i was burning still, and is there anything they can give me for relief. They called in 200mg of AZO, and im like great, that isnt going to help, but i went ahead and started taking it. Two days of taking that, still no relief, so i called them back, saying i really think i have a UTI, and would plz prescribe me some antibiotics, so they did. Ive been on them for a week, and nothing. I did have one moment on Friday night, where something came over me while urinating. It was weird, and everything felt normal. I was like, did i pass something, for there is no pain, and things felt different. I got up and walked back to the living room to tell my wife. I also didnt have that feeling like i still have a catheter in when walking after urinating. I was so relieved, and thought this was finally over, but no, woke up the next morning back to the burning. I thought also am i developing scar tissue, and getting some retention, and thats what causing the burn, but i have very strong stream, so i dont think it could be that, or hoping not. The doctor did say if after taking the full dose of antibiotics, and still burning, then he will want me to come in. Ive read or found little information on my situation, so its baffling me. I know we all heal differently, but everyone else seems to be back to normal with no pain whats so ever, and just dealing with the leaking. Just want it to hurry up and end..

It sounds like they need to do a cystoscopy. Put a scope up your urethra and see what is going on. I had it done in preparation for an AUS and it was really not painful at all.

It could be you have a spot in your urethra that is not healing properly. It may be that you need to have a catheter in for a while, so that spot can heal. I’m not a doctor so I can’t tell you for sure.

Hopefully your visit with a doctor comes up with a solution.

Sure does sound like they need to do a scope. I never thought they were bad I've had quite a few of them. I just wish when my bladder feels full I could pee. The only time I can really pee is waking up four or five times at night, then I have a good stream. But still leaking all night filling up the overnight diaper. But thank goodness when I do go it's not burning. During the day, I have a bladder full, but I can't get anything started that amount to anything. Yes during the day is this mostly incontinence when it comes out from moving around

Could it be that you are having kidney stones or sand that is trying to come out and is causing you burning and irritation ? Maybe you passed one tiny stone in the moment when you felt release and easing of pain ? Just a thought . ..

Another update: It looked like i was urinating some very small specks of something, which could still be some scabs. Before going to bed, I did however pass what looked liked a blood clot. I felt it coming out (didnt hurt) but it sure did burn when finishing urinating.

@mpersonne 7 weeks and still passing clots? I agree with others that cystoscope should be done.
Might be a bit early but definitely discuss with your urologist…something isn’t quite right.
