Upcoming Appointment in Rochester

Posted by gregmay2015 @gregmay2015, 6 days ago

I am traveling 17 hours from North Carolina to an appointment in Rochester on Monday. Does anyone know if the weather is going to be bad or if they will likely cancel.

Please advise if possible.

Take care,
Greg

Welcome @gregmay2015, Saturday and Sunday the weather is not looking too good but Monday looks OK - https://weather.com/weather/tenday/l/627ec6b80f8ad1d2195864dd395de047e8a23ec74105fe9a25ea2f0fe158711d. 17 hours sounds like a long drive. Have you looked at the weather for the route you are taking to Rochester?

There is a Winter Storm Warning out for the area this weekend into Monday morning.

John answered your question about the weather. About the possibility of your appointments being canceled, I doubt it. I can not remember a time when Mayo Rochester closed due to weather. Granted, some staff may have trouble making it to work, but the staff who are there can usually accommodate the patients who show up.

In addition to what John mentioned, I would download the MN 511 app, which will have the latest road conditions. Most states have similar apps.

Also, I would pack a "Winter Survival Kit" in your car. WI Dept of Transportation site has a good list of what to include:
https://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/safety/education/winter-drv/survival-kit.aspx
If will be drving in snow, make sure you have good wiper blades on the car before leaving home.

I have one in my car from Nov to April and, luckily, have never had to use it, but good to know I have it in case of an emergency.

Drive safe

@gregmay2015, one tip you should know is that many parts of Mayo Clinic are connected by underground pathways and overground pathways. The system is called the subway. You can use these passages to connect between buildings, hotels, restaurants, etc. They are lined with shops, coffee shops, the patient library is there too. There are wheelchairs you can use at any time as well.

This will help you stay out of the elements while at Mayo Clinic.

Any other questions as you head to Rochester? Where will you be staying?

I hope this is worth it. From what everyone says this is the best clinic in the country. I've been dealing with this nerve image in my face for 3 years now so I was praying for good news.@colleenyoung

Hi, @gregmay2015. It is nice to “meet” you. I hope your travels remain safe.

I am curious…..you mention “nerve image in my face”. Would you explain what has been happening the last 3 years?

Ah, you are headed to a good place to help you.

I am a patient at Mayo Clinic MN and have been dealing with the impact of nerve function in my face. I look forward to hearing more about your experience as you are comfortable sharing.

Did you contact Mayo Clinic yourself or have a doctor that referred you? What appointments do you have lined up?
