Unusual Vomiting when I don't Expect it

Posted by phxbarb @phxbarb, Nov 28 10:21am

I start out ok, doing a task, like raking leaves. Then suddenly I feel queasy, unwell and have to sit down. If I don't sit or lay down right away, I am in the kitchen vomiting in the sink. I have those little white pills ( O something) for nausea that can "catch" it sometimes. What is it?
I am older, age 83. Usually up and around and this limits me. Cannot go to Walmart and vomit there. Won't find a chair to sit in either.

So sorry you go through this so often…my heart goes out to you…really important to get to a doc, sooner than later…this is very hard on the esophagus, so getting relief sooner is better..wishing you good healing…. In the meantime, are there any adjustments to your daily routine that might help ?

Hmm. Very interesting. I also experience occasional episodes of vomiting. For no apparent reason, I will be eating and, suddenly, will develop pangs of nausea. Most times I can calm my stomach by just standing and praying. A couple of times, however, no amount of calming helps and I have to head off to the toilet(kitchen sink? Never!). Usually several retches will empty my stomach. Then, I am fine and can even return to eat. I cannot explain it.

@heisenberg34 Well, mine is apparently connected to being out of breath, doing a task that becomes too much for me, and nausea that overtakes me. It's never while I am peacefully sitting down, reading or relaxing. It's awful wretching, empties the whole stomach and I get weak and have to lay down. Not like your situation at all.

continue to get different advice from doctors............but below seem to make sense? i have a narrow small intestine following surgery.....resulting in chronic constipation / hard stool
if constipation caused by medication or narrow small intestine?

Medications i should not take / Talk to your health care team first.
DO NOT use liquid laxatives that have mineral oil or magnesium in them. Brands such as Magnolax®, Agarol®, or Milk of Magnesia® may not be safe to use.

DO NOT take bulk-forming laxatives like Metamucil® or Prodiem®. These are forms of fibre, which do not work for medication-related constipation. They will make bowel movements very hard if you do not drink enough fluids.

DO NOT take a suppository or use an enema before speaking with your health care team if you think your white blood cell or platelet counts might be low. Some cancer treatments increase your risk of having low white blood cells or low platelets. White blood cells help fight infection. Platelets help your body to stop bleeding.

DO NOT take Docusate (example: “Colace”). This is a stool softener. It does not help opioid-related constipation and we do not recommend that you take this.

@peterose Absolutely @pxhbarb needs to see a GP if haven’t seen one yet about this inexplicable vomitting while active. Especially when it’s badly affecting quality of life.

There could be an underlying health condition that needs to be identified and dealt with.

I had a scan and turned out that I had a tumour in my abdomen that was interfering with my digestion and needed to be removed.

Best to get checked out and know what’s going on.

@isadora2021
he may end up with total blockage.......and require an NG~! .not pleasant but effective!

re NG
An NG tube is often used to help relieve pressure and decompress the stomach when there is a blockage in the intestines or stomach. It can also be used to deliver fluids and nutrients directly into the stomach. The tube is inserted through the nose and threaded into the stomach, and it may be used to deliver charcoal or other medicines into the body to treat poisoning. The NG tube is typically used for temporary relief and is removed once the digestive system begins to function again.
