Unexplained neurological/visual symptoms for 3+ years – seeking advice

Posted by levi20273 @levi20273, 2 days ago

Hello,
I am a 23-year-old male, and for more than 3 years I have been struggling with a set of symptoms that are difficult to describe, but significantly reduce my quality of life. I would like to ask for advice on what this could be and what direction I should take next, as specialist evaluations so far have not led to a clear diagnosis.
Main symptoms:
• “Strange vision”: It is not blurred vision, but rather a disturbance in depth perception and spatial awareness. It feels as if nearby objects appear farther away (and vice versa), as if my hand-eye coordination is worsening, or as if my vision is “dizzy” and I am not fully present in space.
• Physical pressure: During stronger episodes, I feel significant tension/pressure around my temples, the outer parts of my eyes, and the inner corners of my eyes.
• Seasonality: The symptoms mainly occur from late spring to early autumn, with the most intense period during summer. Last year, symptoms were present on about 90% of days during the season. In winter, they are much rarer, almost absent.
• Psychological impact: When symptoms are present, I am unable to concentrate, and after a while I develop a deep depressive mood.
• Duration: Each episode lasts about 1–3 days. Sleep sometimes helps, but not reliably.
Medical history / What has been done so far:
Over the past 3 years, I have consulted more than 60 doctors (both public and private healthcare) with these exact symptoms, but unfortunately no clear diagnosis or solution has been found.
• Neurology: I have been diagnosed with migraine, but I have had migraine for over 15 years (the visual disturbance only started 3 years ago). Acute migraine medications help with the pain, but do not prevent or relieve the visual symptoms. MRI and CT scans were negative (except for a small incidental cyst, which doctors say is not responsible for my symptoms). Migraine with aura has also been considered.
• Ophthalmology: No abnormalities found; structurally healthy eyes. My vision is otherwise perfect both for near and distance.
• ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat): Mild deviated septum and past sinusitis, but no current inflammation.
• Other: Cardiology, endocrinology, pulmonology, and lab tests (blood work, blood pressure) are all within normal or near-perfect ranges.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post and for any advice you may have.

Where have you treated for your migraine? Where do you live? You must go to one of the headache centers in the country. I go to Jefferson in Philly.

What a terrible situation for you to have! I feel so sorry for you having to cope with these symptoms all these years and your doctors aren't figuring out what exactly is going on. I would suggest that the only thing that will help at this point is God. Pray to God for help and he will be there for you. Pray often also. I had migraines so bad that I ended up in the emergency room for a shot of Demerol every month and I was also taking several pain pills. It took my Mom and me two years of praying before they went completely away but they did go away. This doesn't mean it will take two years for your symptoms to go away. Everyone's different. But prayer will help. Besides, what have you got to lose? You don't have to go to church to find God. Just talk to him like he's your best friend and he is! After all, he made you and he can fix you! I will say a prayer for you also.
I wish you the best.
