Unexplained muscle weakness

Posted by iillitad53 @iillitad53, Oct 18, 2025

Hi! I’m a 23 year old female and I have been going through a lot of symptoms for about 6 months now. It started fatigue and heart palpitations/fast heart rate and high blood pressure and weakness/numbness in the arms. I went through tests and didn’t have any heart issues just a fast heart rate. I started medication for that and it helped. I went to neurologist because my pcp suggested it. I went through tests and a mri. Only things that was flagged on my blood test was a positive ANA screening and Vitamin D deficiency. By time I got those test back the weakness had spread to other parts of my body like my legs and causing random muscles to twitch. I had been dealing with mobility issues as well. My neurologist had recommended that I see a rheumatologist. I was also given methylpredinose like a few weeks before my blood test. I got additional blood test and an MRI of only right femur. My MRI has come back mostly normal with trace bilateral knee joint effusions. I only had one thing positive in my blood test and that was C1na antibody in myositis panel. These symptoms are making it hard for me to do everyday activities. I just want some answers and if anyone could give me some tips.

Hi @iillitad53, I’m hoping this isn’t too late to reply.
I’m a 24 year old female who has very similar symptoms and experiences to you. I started having uncomfortable feeling in my right foot when I was 17 y.o. That prevented me from sleeping. I told my doctor about it and they took an x-ray of my foot and said everything was normal and so I have been dealing with it ever since.
Around 2024, the pain got so much worse. It starts with tingling, throbbing pain, and numbness. But recently the pain has escalated. One day my whole leg went numb while I was driving and my car stalled in the middle of the road. The pain, weakness, and tingling has moved into both of my feet, legs, and arms. I have unknown muscle spasms and twitching. It has made doing activities and working extremely hard. I had to go out on FMLA for 6 months and still no answers.
Similarly, when I got my blood tests back they found vitamin D, copper, iron, and vitamin b deficiencies but I have been taken prescribed supplements for those and nothing has changed. I have previously seen neurology, have gotten an EEG, two MRIs of my spinal cord, and a nerve conduction test only for all tests to come back as normal (besides some small amounts of white matter in my brain but nothing abnormal). I have also been referred to cardiology for my vision going black and spells of passing out.
I was also referred to rheumatology and my blood work has indicated low levels for my red blood cells and white blood cells but the cause is unknown. I was also prescribed prednisone. I’m still waiting for my ANA results to come back.
No one has been able to give me any answers and in the meantime I have difficulty driving, sleeping, and moving and I am frustrated with nobody knowing anything.
Were they have to find out anything with your muscle biopsy?

@mkm120 I still don’t have any concrete answers and I was refer to a neuromuscular specialist and my rheumatologist thinks I have Lupus and has prescribed me on hydroxychloroquine it helps with some symptoms but my muscle have definitely gotten just like you I have started losing feeling in my feet and makes it hard to drive and I still have the muscle twitches. You should probably ask to go to neuromuscular specialist and keep advocating for yourself.
