Uh Oh - tested positive for Haemophilus Influenzae - is this bad?

Posted by mustlovedogs @mustlovedogs, Jun 7, 2025

After first visit to the Bronchiectasis doc he just sent a message to say my sample tested positive and has ordered me an antibiotic. I'm new on this journey - although Doc thinks I have had Bronchiectasis for several years. Does this infection explain why I have been coughing for months? I feel OK otherwise just a bit of a nagging headach and neck pain I have been putting down to sleeping on a wedge for my reflux.

Thank you Anna. I will keep my fingers tightly crossed that the Mac is negative.

Quick question, Sue. If your sputum showed HI how is it that it did not also show Pseudomonas? I can understand not detecting MAC since that takes longer. Won't a standard sputum culture show both Pseudomonas and HI?

HI was from a nasal swab

Very good. Thanks for the info. Took the first pill (huge!) with breakfast. 1 down 27 to go LOL.

You can break the Augmentin in half and take it. My Pulmo said that was fine to do.

I mean take both halfs. Just easier to swallow that way.

Quick update.
On day 5 of the amox-clav and I'm no longer coughing! Still some throat clearing and a bit of post nasal drip which I think is my silent reflux but it appears the antibiotic is doing what it's supposed to do!
Such a relief to no longer be coughing all day.
