Tymlos pro/cons

Posted by ldj1002 @ldj1002, Dec 22, 2023

I’m 57 with newly diagnosed borderline severe osteoporosis.
Dr is strongly recommending Tymlos.
I’ve Read up on some of side effects.
Is it best to take at night incase of headaches/ dizziness?
Thanks!

Very, very helpful information. Thank you. I ordered the recommended book, and it should be arriving today. I'll also check out those videos. I inquired about Tymlos which my Dr. also mentioned. I would go in monthly for 6 months. He said afterwards I would need to go on another medication as if that isn't the case with Prolia. Sure hoping I get some clarification with reading the book and watching the videos. If only I could take my Dr.'s recommendation and go with that. Thanks again.

@saab Tymlos is a daily injection done at home. Tymlos, Forteo, Evenity and Prolia all require follow-up with a bisphosphonate but the rebound risk is much greater with Prolia.

I am on Forteo the original version of Tymlos. I wasn't able to tolerate Tymlos. Since being on Forteo caused headaches also I switched the time of day for my injections. I switched from mid day to the first thing in the morning. The headaches miraculously went away. Best of luck and Forteo is an alternative to Tymols if you can't tolerate.

Hi All,
I've started Tymlos three days ago - one click only. Hard not to feel like I'm not stepping up but I'm sensitive to meds and am afraid to go full dose right away. Thanks to all of you who have posted about titrating. It's helpful and reassuring to know others have done this as well.

Thanks!

Great that you've started. If one click had no side effects, go to 2 next time. You can always level off for a bit, but you'll never know what you can tolerate until to try. Good luck, and keep us posted!

Hello all, I just started Tymlos as well. I decided to take it late in the evening. I have experienced a headache shortly thereafter & dizziness and within 30 mins the side-effects dissipated. Else, appears as though my body is handling it well. I decided to go with Tymlos at my endocrinologist recommendation having suffered 2 vertebrae fractures and more recently experiencing a lot of pain from what appears to be another fracture. What is ironic is that my DXA/REMS test results are not all that bad. However, fractures can happen, regardless. It seems as though, overall, my bones just aren't so strong. 🫤 Quite depressing.

Calcium, vitamin D3, vitamin K2, and the proper exercise can help your bone density while you are on Tymlos.

1 thing - Tymlos can cause your calcium levels to be high - my doctor had me stop taking calcium and my levels are at the high end of normal. Check with your doctor, or have your calcium levels checked!

I've posted on another thread, but I've been on Tymlos for almost 1.5 years. I had a DEXA 5 months after starting and my spine had gone from -3.2 to -2.8 (hips hadn't changed). It was a different machine - my initial one was at my GYN's office, and now I'm going to a specialty clinic at a research hospital so I can't be 100% sure of the numbers. I am scheduled for another one in a few weeks.

I’ve been on Tymlos since June of 22 and about to finish the 2 year protocol. What I can tell u is that for me, side effects were minimal but I chose to inject in the evening before bed and that helped considerably. My bone density in my spine, as of November, has improved by 11%. I’m so pleased. Never have had any fractures so that has been a good thing considering my numbers were in the -4.7 in my spine and I’m very active.
The jabs do not hurt, maybe a slight pinch but needles are extremely small and I inject into my lower abdomen.
Wish I could continue after 2 years but doc says that’s not an option. Considering my next move but osteo meds may not be my choice. Possible bioidentical hormones to maintain my gains and help with my very limited hormone counts. I pray your journey will be a positive one. Rose 🌹

@dooshie Just began Tymlos..am in first week. What I wish to know is whether the side effects will likely diminish over time or not. I know everyone is different, but I have had to adjust my days because of either the headaches and palpitations, or the profound fatigue I get in the afternoons. I have been taking the shot in the evening, and am pretty miserable soon after. Will try doing it at bedtime, but am wondering if all this goes on at this level indefinitely.
