Tymlos pro/cons

Posted by ldj1002 @ldj1002, Dec 22, 2023

I’m 57 with newly diagnosed borderline severe osteoporosis.
Dr is strongly recommending Tymlos.
I’ve Read up on some of side effects.
Is it best to take at night incase of headaches/ dizziness?
Thanks!

ldj1002, the dose is the same for everyone.
Windyshores discovered that she could manipulate the pen to take a lower dose. Her doctor was impressed and now advises his other patients to start with a lower dose in order to introduce your body to the drug in a more kindly fashion. Be sure and read her posts before starting Tymlos.

@drsuefolwer sorry to be unclear. The video online is Ben Leder MD on Sequencing and Combinations. Keith McCormick's book "Great Bones
covers the same ground on meds.

I don't know much about this but I have read that radiologists can use a formula to try to eliminate the effects of strontium on the DEXA but with a dose of 300, not sure how they would do that! Docs don't seem to know much about strontium in my experience.

Hi! Thanks for your input.
My T score in L 1-4 is 2.9
2.7 in neck.
I’m glad Tymlos has worked well for you!

Is dexascan routine for the neck? I’ve only had hips and back done.

I started taking it at night, but switched to mornings. I was waking up with a headache. In the first months I would rest after the shot and even took my blood pressure before and after. But after awhile I found that side effects (which for me lasted maybe 2 hours) eased if I got up and out. I actually found it more tolerable by being active! Everyone is different and you can play around with it.

I ramped up the dose and mostly took 6-7 clicks worth versus the full 8 as I have written before. I had excellent gains. I would actually vary the dose depending on what I had to do that day: 6 clicks for a day with something important or onerous, and 7 the rest of the time. At the very end I did manage a full dose!

Tymlos was the ONLY med I could tolerate and I am so grateful. I am going to try Evenity a few times and then my doc will do a 20% Reclast test dose which I may stick with, due to my sensitivities. Good luck!

Now that I think about it , I don’t remember neck being scanned . However I have SEVERE degenerative issues in neck. It looks like a jigsaw in x rays. But they definitely had the neck listed.

They may have been referring to the neck of the femoral bone.

To help with the understanding of the DEXA . It picks up all bones scanned. The DEXA can only be used to capture the lumbar vertebrae in the spine area because that’s the only place where other bones wouldn’t be picked up as part of the scan. If they scanned higher the measurement would begin picking up the ribs, and if moving higher yet other bones like the clavicles (shoulder blades) would be picked up. , Hope that helps to make this clear!!!
