Tymlos causing belly fat?
I’m on Tymlos for about 2 1/2 months now. I’m not usually concerned about my weight. I stay pretty stable. I’ve noticed that my belly seems to be getting fatter. Has anyone experienced this belly fat situation from Tymlos? Is there anything I can do about it? Why is it happening? Thanks for any input.

Can someone verify that injection into the thigh actually helps stop and or reduce the belly fat? It just seems like that side effect would be the same no matter where you inject since the med goes into the blood stream?
I’m also curious about LCarnatine which supplement have people used to hopefully help with the belly roll, fat, puff? I’m so high waisted that there is not much room for the extra roll and it’s making me very uncomfortable!

2 Reactions@lurawilson First, this is anecdotal. It hasn't been observed in studies. Not saying it isn't happening.
Second, who knows why? Maybe it has nothing to do with what's in the bloodstream. Maybe the excess fat is the body's way of reacting to daily needle injections in the abdomen. It may even be retaining water, we don't know.

1 Reaction@njx58 I guess I could start injecting in the thigh to see if there is a change?
@lurawilson You can do the study on yourself! 🙂

I know others have said that their docs advise that the shot can be given elsewhere, but my doc insists it be done as prescribed, in the abdomen…..
@babbsjoy My feeling is that the manufacturer has told us what to do. If it could be injected in multiple places, why wouldn't they have said so?

2 ReactionsLily, on their webite, states:
"Inject FORTEO in the thigh or abdomen once daily with the easy-to-use FORTEO delivery device. FORTEO must be injected. You cannot take FORTEO as a pill because your stomach would digest the medicine before it has a chance to work."
If Forteo is okay to inject in the thigh, I see no reason Tymlos could not be.
I think the belly fat is an overall side effect of the collapse of the spinal structure with osteoperosis and not a direct effect of the Tymlos. It is hard to know but as we lose spinal structure it is mostly in the thoracic spine that we lose the inches in height. This causes the upper body to retreat down and push the belly out. The main height loss is in the upper body. Diet and exercise can help with the belly fat and protrusion. The Mind diet is particularly good at reducing belly fat with age.
@adam08 I had a little extra belly fat. I'm the same height as always, and my spinal structure is fine, and I'm extremely fit. So, not sure about your theory. 🙂
I'm noticing that some of what I thought was belly fat may have been extension due to constipation. It's never been severe constipation, but when I feel like I'm cleaned out, my abdomen is flatter. I did gain 8 pounds, though, on Tymlos and Forteo.
