Never heard of that side effect, to be honest. I don't see how it could cause you to burn more calories? It could be coincidence. I would look for other reasons first. Change in eating habits? Dehydration? Hormone imbalance? Even something silly like an inaccurate scale can give you a bad weighing result,
You might want to have a full blood panel done to rule out any other potential issues. We get so caught up in our osteoporosis treatment that we sometimes forget that there are many other things that can go wrong with our health.
There is another thread on Mayo Connect that contains tons of comments about people on Tymlos having about a 10 lb weight GAIN esp in the abdomen area. This happened to me as well. I had not heard of a weight loss problem, but it makes sense if your appetite goes away. Unfortunately a lot of us have NOT changed a thing and have put on 10lbs since starting Tymlos.
I started taking Tymlos in October 2025 and now in January 2026 I find that I have lost 8 lbs. As a 5’11” small boned 66 yo female, I should NOT weigh 117lbs.
I still have not worked my way up to the full 80 dosage. I’m currently at 50. I’ve never had weight issues because I’m a runner. But my doctor insists I continue because as far as he knows, weight loss is not a side effect.
I think he needs to read more about this drug.
@lightlifts
I’m thinking that the weight loss could be related to mildly high
calcium levels. I just got blood and urine test results back from my physical which indicate this.
Hypercalcemia can cause weight loss from what I understand.
I’ll obviously have to talk to my doctors about this.

@kittygrrrl I experienced some nausea and reduced appetite when I began Tymlos. In about 5 months I lost around 15 pounds—no dieting. It was a bonus—I needed to lose weight. The doctor gave me med for the nausea—which lasted a couple of months. By the end of my Tymlos 2 years—I had regained about half of weight lost. Hope you can get back to your normal weight! Hang in there!

@niifty1 I've been on tymlos for 9mo actually gained weight. They then put me on hydrochlorothiazide to lower water gain. Hope tymlos worked for you. I haven't gotten any test results to check mine yet

I am 66 years old 5'3''and weighed 102 pounds starting tymlos. After about 9 months in I suddenly lost 7 pounds and even though I completed 16 months of regular doses, I continue to lose little by little. My doctor also said that weight loss is not a side effect of tymlos.
He also didn't know that it can cause high blood pressure that doesn't go away after treatment.
I'm now on medication for that. I also started to have high cholesterol for the first time in my life. I don't know what to do at this point. It's scaring me.

For me, I have lost more than 10 lbs and started out very thin. No change in appetite, diet, water intake, exercise. All the same as usual. My doc said I tolerated tymlos very well because his choice of blood work came back normal - EXCEPT I now have high blood pressure and high cholesterol for the first time in my life. No other serious issue. I really think it's the tymlos because there were no other factors, (including no added life stress for example), and my weight is all time low. My skin is starting to hang on my body. It's not my scale. I'm skeletal.

Have you been checked for hypercalcemia?
That in itself may cause weight loss.
